FAMU Overtakes DSU, 84-65

DOVER, Del. - A couple of Lady Hornets set career milestones this evening, but it wasn't enough as the Florida A&M University Lady Rattlers defeated the Delaware State University women's basketball team, 84-65, at Memorial Hall in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Delaware State freshman Chelsea Dukes (Baltimore, Md.) tallied a new career-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 2-for-3 from behind the arc in addition to 5-for-7 from the charity stripe as she surpassed her previous career-high of 15 points. Fellow freshman Keyanna Tate (Beltsville, Md.) collected the first double double of her career, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

FAMU received double digit scoring from four players and were led by Tameka McKelton's game-high of 25 points.  Bennett recorded a double double of 24 points and 14 rebounds in addition to three blocked shots.  Sparkman posted 12 points of her own while Qiana Donald recorded 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Rattlers.

Coppin State dominates N.C A&T on ESPNU

BALTIMORE- Senior Jeanine Manley scored a career-high 38 points leading Coppin State to an 85-63 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over North Carolina A&T on Monday in the Physical Education Complex.

Coppin State (10-10, 5-2 MEAC) also received 10 points and six rebounds from Leola Spotwood and eight points and eight rebounds from Larrisa Carter.

North Carolina A&T (7-12, 2-4 MEAC) was led by Amber Calvin who had 18 points, while JaQuayla Berry finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

NCCU Women's Basketball Falls to Morgan State 64-59

BALTIMORE, MD.- The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University proved that they are a Division I program ready to compete on any given  night, as three student-athletes in maroon and gray scored in double-figures and two of the those athletes achieved career-high outings in a 64-59 loss to Morgan State.

Amarah Williams led Morgan State with a team-high 19 points, the center pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double, as Carrington and Omara Parker scored 13 points apiece.  Carrington distributed five assists, while Moneshia Davis blocked four shots and gathered seven steals.

NCCU freshman Kabrina Truesdale led N.C. Central with a career-high and team-high 16 points, as junior Chasidy Williams grasped her 15th double-figure outing and her fifth double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while redshirt sophomore Lakisha Evans dropped a career-high 10 points.  Truesdale contributed to MSU's 21 turnovers with a team-high four steals.

Lady Pirates Pick Up Sixth Straight Win By Beating Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Hampton University women's basketball team survived a scare to pick up its sixth straight win on Monday, beating Howard 52-39 at Burr Gymnasium to sweep the season series.

Sophomore forward Alyssa Bennett (Hampton, Va.) led the Lady Pirates with 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting, while senior guard Jericka Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas) added 12 points and nine assists. Junior forward Ariel Phelps (Virginia Beach, Va.) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Doyle led Howard (13-7, 5-2 MEAC) with 17 points, while Holmes added 10.

Howard shot just 23.6 percent (13-for-55) from the floor, hitting just one of its 15 34-pointers - the sixth time this season the Lady Pirates have held an opponent to just one made 3-pointer. The Lady Bison went just 12-for-18 from the free throw line.

Batchelor Solidifies 100TH WIN

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team did not allow a field-goal over the final eight minutes of play to post a 47-43 victory over Bethune-Cookman University on Monday night at the William P. Hytche Center. With the victory over BCC, head coach Fred Batchelor reached his 100th career win as Hawk in his eighth year at the helm of UMES' women's basketball program.

The maroon and grey were benefitted by the solid play of Cook, who had team-highs in points (11) and rebounds (seven). Finney led all scorers with 10 first-half points, while Sanders had four assists and senior guard Kwinnyata Mercer (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) buried a trio of three-pointers. UMES finished the game just under 50 percent from three-point range (5-for-11) and registered eight blocks total.

BCC was led by Frank's 11 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats saw several solid performances from Cleniece Roberts (10 points, three steals) and Elum (nine points, six rebounds). The Wildcats managed to shoot just 19 percent in the second-half and were 2-for-12 from long-distance in the loss.
