HAMPTON, Va. - Kyle O'Quinn's two-handed dunk with 31 second remaining gave Norfolk State the lead for good, and O'Quinn and Rob Johnson both hit two free throws in the final 11 seconds to clinch the Spartans' eight straight win, 80-75, over Hampton on Saturday evening at the HU Convocation Center.
O'Quinn (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Johnson (career highs of 19 points, 15 rebounds) both tallied double-doubles for the Spartans (15-5, 5-0 MEAC), who continued their best-ever MEAC start and longest winning streak in 17 years. The Spartans also snapped a four-game losing streak to the Pirates (6-13, 2-4), who swept the season series last year and eliminated NSU from the MEAC Tournament in two straight seasons.
Hampton rode a torrid first-half shooting display to a 49-42 lead, and led for much of the see-saw second half until O'Quinn's flush with 30 seconds left. Neither team led by more than five points for the final 19 minutes of the game.

Rattlers Rally Past Hawks
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball team narrowed a 13 point deficit to one possession with less than a minute remaining, but could not get over the hump as the Hawks dropped a 54 -49 decision to Florida A&M at the William P. Hytche Center on Saturday afternoon.
UMES provided a valiant late second half rally as the squad used five consecutive points by sophomore forward Shanyce Stewart with two minutes left in regulation to spearhead an 11-1 run. Senior guard Amber Cook made four consecutive free throws to bring the game to its second closet margin, 52-49, with 37 seconds remaining.
Following a timeout and a Rattler turnover, the Hawks had a chance to even the contest but the ensuing shot fell just off its mark as FAMU would hold onto its lead and send the Hawks to the loss in their first home game in seven weeks.
FAMU raced out to an 11-0 lead after three minutes of play. A layup by freshman forward Porsha Barr would finally get the Hawks on the board, but the Rattlers would score the next five points of the game to take a 16-2 lead with 11 minutes remaining. UMES used another layup by Stewart to collect a 14-7 scoring advantage over the next seven minutes of play to cut the FAMU lead to seven, 23-16.
