B-CU Steals 52-50 Game From Lady Hornets

DOVER, Del. - Delaware State led almost the entirety of the game but was outscored, 15-7, in the final eight minutes of the game as Bethune-Cookman took a 52-50 victory over the Lady Hornets early Saturday evening.

Junior Kianna D'Oliveira posted her second double double of the year and 13th of her career with 10 points and 12 rebounds on the night.

Redshirt freshman Tierra Hawkins added in 14 points and eight boards of her own in the loss.

DSU played tough defense in the final seconds and it looked as though the game was going to go into overtime as Jasmine Elum aired a three-pointer for B-CU with four seconds left before Dukes was called for a foul.  Cleniece Roberts hit both free throws in the bonus situation to put Bethune-Cookman up, 52-50, with two seconds on the clock.

Delaware State outrebounded Bethune-Cookman, 48-31, in the game.  The Lady Hornets gave up 24 points to the Lady Wildcats in the paint in the second half compared to just 10 for DSU.

Demetria Frank posted 14 points while Elum recorded 10 for Bethune-Cookman.

Coppin State Defeats North Carolina Central, 84-44

BALTIMORE -- Leola Spotwood and Jeanine Manley each scored 17 points leading Coppin State to an 84-44 MEAC victory over North Carolina Central on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.

The Eagles 40-point victory marked its largest since moving into the Physical Education Complex in 2009. It topped the previous high of 33 points set last year against South Carolina State.

Spotwood was 8-of-12 from the floor and made her only free throw attempt in tying her season-high point total. She also added seven rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal.

Manley recorded her seventh straight double-figure scoring game and was 7-of-9 from the floor. She also had four rebounds and two steals.

Coppin State, which won the seventh time in eight games, raised its record to 9-10 overall and 4-2 in the MEAC.

The Eagles also received 13 points and six assists from Shawntae Payne and 11 points and seven rebounds from Larrisa Carter.

North Carolina Central (2-16, 0-5 MEAC) was led by Chasidy Williams who scored 15 points and collected six rebounds. Blaire Houston added 10 points and four rebounds.

LADY PIRATES ROLL PAST SPARTANS FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton won its fifth straight game on Saturday, as the Lady Pirates upended rival Norfolk State 92-43 at the HU Convocation Center.

The Lady Pirates (14-3, 6-0 MEAC) have also won 16 straight at home and 19 in a row over conference foes - not to mention their 11th straight over the Spartans. Hampton also set a new season high in points scored and came within one 3-pointer of tying the program record for treys in a game.

Senior guard Choicetta McMillian and sophomore guard Nicole Hamilton each led Hampton with 16 points, while junior forward Keiara Avant added 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Alyssa Bennett poured in 13 points.

Rae Corbo led Norfolk State with 19 points.

Lady Bears Defeat NC A&T For First MEAC, Home Win

BALTIMORE-DeKeisha Mathis scored a team-high 16 points and Tracey Carrington came off the bench to add 15 points to lead Morgan State past North Carolina A&T, 85-83 in overtime in a MEAC game at Hill Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the third straight for Morgan State over N.C. A&T and ended the Lady Bears four-game MEAC losing skid to start the conference schedule.

Morgan State (4-14, 1-4 MEAC), which picked up its first home win of the season in only three tries, also got solid production out of freshman Amarah Williams. Williams recorded her second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds and added four blocks and four steals, both game highs.

N.C. A&T was led by Amber Calvin, who along with Tiffanie Adair finished with game-high honors of 20 points and each had five assists apiece. Nikia Gorham scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to record a double-double, while JaQuayla Berry also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
