NSU Ranked 14th in Inaugural NTCA Media Poll
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State bowling team earned a No. 14 ranking in the very first National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) media poll, released this week by the organization.
NSU received 73 votes in the poll to finish in a tie with Kutztown and Monmouth. The Spartans are also currently ranked 13th in the latest NTCA coaches poll as well. The media poll is voted on by sports information directors and various media members.
NSU owns a 32-14 overall record, including a 16-4 mark in conference play. The Spartans sit four games ahead of second-place Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M in the MEAC Southern Division standings. NSU will aim for its third division title in four years at the last Southern Divisional March 3-4.
Valparaiso received 10 first-place votes and finished with 369 points and the No. 1 ranking. Fairleigh Dickinson garnered the other four first-place votes and finished second with 345 points. Sacred Heart, Sam Houston State and Central Missouri rounded out the top 5. No. 6 UMES and No. 12 Delaware State were the only other MEAC schools in the media poll along with NSU.
In addition, NSU was ranked 19th in the latest Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) media poll, made up of programs - both NCAA and non-NCAA teams - who are members of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).

UMES WOMEN'S BOWLING RANKED IN TOP 12 IN LATEST USBC POLLS
ARLINGTON, Texas - As one of only two women's bowling programs in the nation to win both an NCAA and USBC Collegiate Championship and the only to win both in the same year, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks are ranked in several polls each season. Currently at fourth and sixth in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) coaches and media polls respectively, the Hawks are also ranked in the current United States Bowling Congress (USBC) coaches and bowling writers polls.
The National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association recently released their first poll of the season with UMES ranked 11th with 285 points. Pikeville, Lindenwood, Wichita State and Robert Morris-Illinois were the top four teams and all received at least one first place vote. Webber International rounded out the top five. Pikeville tallied 784 points. No other NCAA team was ranked in the poll but Kutztown, Norfolk State and Wisconsin-Whitewater all received votes.
In the latest Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) poll UMES was ranked 12th with 147 points.
