Lady Hornets Succumb, 56-69, To UMES
DOVER, Del. - The Delaware State University women's basketball team recorded too many mental mistakes Saturday evening as they dropped their sixth straight game in a 69-56 loss to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in front of a raucous 875 at Memorial Hall.
Sophomore Tasia Bristow led DSU in scoring with 15 points while Kianna D'Oliveira contributed 10 points in addition to a team-high eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
UMES was guided by a career performance by senior guard Amber Cook, who posted 21 points, six rebounds, three steals and an 11-for-11 effort from the free throw line.

Youth Movement Rallies Bethune-Cookman, but Falls to South Carolina State, 71-60
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Four key possessions that South Carolina State converted for points may have proven to be the most pivotal span in the entire game Saturday afternoon at Moore Gymnasium, as SCSU defeated Bethune-Cookman, 71-60.
Paris Alston put up 10 points in the second half, leading the Lady Bulldogs as part of a 40-point SCSU push in the paint. Alston tied in leading the team with guards Tiara Knotts and Cabriel Duren, each finishing with 16.
Jasmine Elum led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points, while Whitney King put up 12 on 50 percent shooting (nine in the second) in the late push to climb back in. Demetria Frank finished with six rebounds to lead B-CU on the glass.

Hampton Extends Wins Streak With Victory Against Coppin State
BALTIMORE -- Jeanine Manley and Crystal Whittington each scored 13 points, but Nicole Hamilton led four players in double figures with 18 points and Hampton snapped Coppin State's five-game winning streak with a 76-50 MEAC victory over the Eagles on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.
Hamilton was 5-of-5 from the three-point line and finished the game 6-of-8 from the field to lead the Pirates to the victory.
Melanie Warner had 17 points, Choicetta McMillian had 15 and Alyssa Bennett added 14 points and 10 rebounds for Hampton.
Hampton (12-3, 4-0 MEAC) shot 48.1 percent from the field and made 12-of-18 from the three-point line.
Coppin State (7-10, 2-2 MEAC) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end despite the 13 points each from Manley and Whittington.

Norfolk State Spoils Morgan's Home Opener, 76-75
BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 14, 2012)-Norfolk State's Rae Corbo (15 points) shot 5-of-16 from the floor, but her basket in the paint with 24 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner, as the visiting Spartans spoiled Morgan State's home opener with a 76-75 MEAC victory on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
The victory was the second straight over Morgan State, as the Spartans now lead the all-time series, 15-10.
Morgan State had a chance to pull off the victory at the end when Omara Parker drove the left side of the baseline, but her layup attempt rimmed out with just over two seconds left in the game.
Whitney Long led Norfolk State (8-8, 3-2 MEAC) with 16 points, while Quineshia Leonard came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Batavia Owens also tallied a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Morgan State (3-13, 0-3 MEAC) trailed 59-49 with 13:10 remaining in the game, when it used a 20-9 run capped off by Keirah Hicks hitting a trey from the left wing to give the Lady Bears their first lead of the second half at 69-68 with 4:01 to play in the contest.
After Tracey Carrington knocked down two free throws to put Morgan up 73-72, Norfolk went ahead by one when Owens scored on a put back and was fouled. Owens would miss the free throw and Parker raced down the floor and scored on a layup to put Morgan back in front 75-74.
Norfolk State's Corbo gave the guests the lead back with her basket in the lane which proved to be the game winner.
Morgan State was led by Parker, who came off the bench and scored a game-high 19 points, while Carrington, who had not dressed since a 65-48 loss at Stony Brook on Dec. 21, added 15 points and tied team-high honors with six rebounds in a reserve role. Hicks finished with a career-high 12 points, connecting on 4-for-6 from three-point range and Moneshia Davis added 10 points and a game-high three steals.
