Norfolk State senior Josef Tessema and North Carolina Central freshman Amber Brooks were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Tessema (Sr., Springfield, Va.) finished first at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite in 2:59.12. His time set a meet record and aided the Spartans to a second place finish out of five competing teams on the 8K course.
Brooks (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) paced the Lady Eagles with a time of 15:40 at the Duke University Dual Invite. Brooks finished third against #9 Duke in the 5K race.

Ricy Brown (B-CU) won the Jacksonville Duals meet with a time of 16:30.57 on the 4,881 meter course.
Xavier Fraction (Hampton) aided his team to a fourth place finish at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite with a time of 29:10.77.
Dominique Givance (SSU) was among the top 15 finishers (14:23.04) on the 3,300 meter course at the Jacksonville Duals.
Nichelle Harris (Hampton) guided her team to a fourth place finish with a time of 20:21.81 at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite.
Ruben Israel-McBee (SSU) earned a second place finish with a time of 16:42.00 at the Jacksonville Duals.
Eunice Jones (UMES) guided her team to a fifth place finish with a time of 20:28.23 at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite.
Philemon Kimutai (NSU) finished in second with a time of 24:59.12 at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite.
Basil Melek (UMES) was seventh at the UMES Lid Lifter Invite with a time of 25:53.08.
