SC State Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Day Two of the Alabama State Tournament

Montgomery, Ala.-The SC State women's volleyball went 1-1 on Day Two of the Alabama State Tournament. The tournament was the third-straight road tournament for the Lady Bulldogs. Redshirt junior Shabree Roberson and sophomore Desire Waller were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In its first match of the day, SC State (7-10) relinquished a two set to none lead as they fell to Jackson State 2-3, (25-17, 25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 11-25). Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs had another good all-around showing as they recorded 56 kills (.273) with six team blocks and 51 defensive digs. SC State had three players to record double-digit kills led by Desire Waller with 19. E. Paige Webb contributed 13 and Shabree Roberson put down 11 kills in the match. Webb recorded her first double-double of the season as she picked up a game-high 20 digs in the contest. Bria Brimmer put up 50 set assists in the loss.

In its final match of the day, SC State once again jumped ahead two sets to none; however, they never let up, as they went capture the match, 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-23). The Lady Bulldogs continued to maintain its all-around good play as they hit for .313 (53 kills) and put down five team blocks, with a season-high 62 digs. For the second straight game SC State had three players to record double-digit kills. Waller once again led the team in kills with 18. Shabree Roberson put down 13 and E. Paige Webb added 10 kills in the contest. Brendell Studnicka and Waller each recorded double-digit digs with 17 and 12, respectively. Bria Brimmer recorded her third straight 40-plus set assist game with 48.

UMES Wins Late Match Over High Point To Split On Saturday

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Maryland Eastern Shore recovered after a 3-2 loss to Campbell (19-25, 28-26, 19-25, 25-22, 10-15) to defeat High Point 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24) to stay at .500 on the season and stay undefeated on the road. The Hawks go to 6-6 on the season and 4-0 in road matches.

Three Hawks recorded double-doubles against the Camels. Kaveinga Lea'Aetoa led UMES in kills with 16 along with 11 digs and five total blocks. Saitaua Iosia  Iosia had a career high 26 digs along with 15 kills.   Maline Vaitai also had 15 kills along with 11 digs. Jessie Vicic had a career high and MEAC best 56 assists, nearly missing on a double-double with nine digs.

Jordan Reeves led the Camels with 20 kills and 13 digs, while Annie Kobeski finished with 12 kills and six total blocks.

Vaitai totaled 17 kills, five aces to tie a career high, eight digs and a pair of blocks againt tournament host High Poinnt. Iosia nearly had another double-double, finishing with 21 kills and nine digs. Vicic picked up her first double-double of the season with 49 assists and 10 digs, adding two aces and a block.

High Point was led by Michelle Chakierlis, who finished with 13 kills. Courtney Johnk ended with 12 kills and four blocks.

NSU Splits 2 Matches at High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. -Norfolk State earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over High Point before falling to Campbell, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the High Point Invitational at the Millis Center.

The Spartans defeated host High Point (2-12) in their first match of the day, 25-23, 21-25, 29-27, 22-25, 15-11, thanks in part to a relentless attack that posted 62 kills. The Panthers, on the other hand, had just 38 kills but did have a 15-4 edge in blocks.

Campbell then made quick work of the tired Spartans, 25-15, 25-15, 25-13, in the very next match to drop NSU to 3-8 on the year. The Camels improved to 8-9.

Against High Point, junior Kristen Burt posted 54 assists, just one short of tying the all-time program record, although as a team NSU tied the all-time mark for assists in a match with 60 set on Nov. 15, 2003 against Coppin State.

Freshman Adriana Ramos was one of four players in double figures in kills with 17, while senior Jasmine Frazier added 15. Juniors Charlotte Armstead and Beatriz Ferreira each added 13. NSU hit .203 as a team, compared to a .152 clip for the Panthers.

Senior Tracey Copley led all players with 20 digs, with junior Megan Lavo (14), Ramos (13) and junior Paige Gary-Canty (10) also reaching double figures. Frazier and Ramos each posted three services aces. NSU had a 73-54 edge in digs, and the teams combined for 29 service errors.

High Point was led by Courtney Johnk with 14 kills and Stephanie Kaminskas with 17 assists. Breanna Holliday had a team-high 18 digs, while Caity Farus and Johnk combined for 17 blocks.
