MEAC Announces Cross Country Weekly Honors

Norfolk State senior Philemon Kimutai and Maryland Eastern Shore senior Eunice Jones were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Kimutai (Sr., Eldoret, Kenya) recorded a personal best time of 24:44.92 to finish second at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational. The Spartan men scored 21 points to finish first out of 10 teams.  

Jones (Sr., Lanham, Md.) ran a time of 18:46.37 on the 5K course to finish among the top 10 at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite. As a team, the Lady Hawks took home third place honors.   

Other Top Performers:

Janessa Benn (NCAT) paced the Lady Aggies with a time of 20:33 at the Elon Invitational.

Amber Brooks (NCCU) competed at the Elon Invitational and finished with a time of 20:04.

Kouri Falconer (DSU) was among the top 25 finishers at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite in 27:53.10.

Xavier Fraction (Hampton) led his team to a sixth place finish in 27:46.41 at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite.

Nichelle Harris (Hampton) finished among the top 15 at the William & Mary Invite with a time of 19:29.00.

Basil Melek (UMES) was third at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite with a time of 25:23.06.

Dashera Richardson (DSU) ran a time of 19:15.13 on the 5K course at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite.

Kellen Rutto (NSU) aided her team to a fourth place finish in 19:49.38 at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite.

Josef Tessema (NSU) captured his third straight individual title with a win at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invite in 24:43.91.

Brittney Stewart (SCSU) paced her team with a time of 19:59.50 at the Winthrop Invitational.

Seymour Walter (SCSU) ran a time of 27:56.28 at the Winthrop Invitational.
