Hornets Led By Richardson And Falconer At Cappy Anderson
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - In preparation for the MEAC Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the Delaware State University cross country teams competed Saturday at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational.
Junior Dashera Richardson led the women's team for the third straight week as she finished 12th overall with a time of 19:15.13. Towson's Katie Ogden took first place overall in 18:00.59. The Tigers won the meet with a total of 17 points.
Sophomore Ketsia Dornevil finished in a time of 20:08.02, which was good for 28th place. Graduate student Jessica Harrison and senior Kendra Mayers were 45th and 46th with respective times of 21:58.57 and 22:01.21. Senior Tracey Fan Fan wrapped up the scoring for Del State with her 53rd place finish of 22:39.82.
On the men's side, senior Kouri Falconer finished first for the Hornets and 22nd overall in 27:53.10 in the 8k race. Norfolk State's Josef Tessema set a new course record with his first place time of 24:43.91. The Spartans won the men's race with 21 points.
Senior Donte' Holmes finished second for DSU and 30th overall with a time of 28:37.16. Freshman Brandon Barnes was 39th in 29:34.05 while junior Kevaughn Laviea placed 47th in 30:30.00. Senior Tariq Devore finished out the scoring for the Hornets with a 58th place finish of 33:17.29.

NCCU Women Finish Sixth At Elon Cross Country Invitational
Elon, N.C.- Despite the rain and early fall-like temperatures, the North Carolina Central's men's and women's cross country teams made the cross-town trip to Elon on Saturday, Sept. 17 to Elon, N.C., where they competed in the Elon Invitational.
During the women's 5k race the Lady Eagles placed sixth overall. Freshmen Amber Brooks remained consist for NCCU with a final trail time of 20 minutes and 4 seconds to place 31st among 79 runners. Senior Dreanna Wallace continued to be a leader for her youthful teammates, finishing behind Brooks with a final time of 20:14 for 38th place finish.
On the men's side, NCCU competed in the 8k race and for the third-straight time this season senior Jamar Jones led the way for the Eagles. Jones finished the trail with a time clocking in at 30:10. Freshmen Chris Swepson finished five spots behind his fellow Eagle, with a course time of 34:38.

UMES Cross Country Finishes In Top Five In Cappy Anderson
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Maryland Eastern Shore finished in the top five as hosts of the Cappy Anderson Invite. The UMES women finished third, while the men took fourth place. The Hawks Basil Melek finished third in a time of 25:23.06. Eunice Jones led the women with a sixth place finish of 18:46.37.
Melek's finish is his second top-five finish this season. He placed first in the Delaware State Open (Sept. 10). Jones notched her second top 10 finish this season as well.
Zavior Brown placed 14th with his time of 26:58.33. Shadrick Maritim and Codjo Gbedo placed 27th and 34th, respectively. Maritim raced to a finishing time of 28:14.82 while Gbedo finished in 29:08.45.
Cynthia Anais helped to give the Hawks two top 10 finishers with her eighth place time of 19:04.08. Hana Jiraskova and Melina Gallas rounded out the sub 21-minute runners with their times of 20:05.41 and 20:00.36, respectively.

Hampton Cross Country Finishes Third, Sixth On Weekend
HAMPTON, Va. -Hampton's men's and women's cross country teams competed this past Saturday at the Maryland Eastern Shore Cappy Anderson Invitational and William & Mary Invitational, respectively.
The Lady Pirates came in third in Williamsburg, Va. with 83 points, while the Pirates finished sixth in Princess Anne, Md. with 175 points.
Sophomore Nichelle Harris led the Lady Pirates in Williamsburg with a 19:29.00 over the 5K course to finish 14th, while junior Teshika Rivers was 19th with a 19:39.00 and sophomore Devyn Thompson ran a 19:43.00 to finish 21st.
Sophomore Alaine Tatecame in 26th with a time of 20:02.00, while junior Shaquanda Gainey ran a 20:26.00 to finish 33rd.
Sophomore Cydney Robinson came in 35th with a 21:24.00.
Junior Xavier Fraction paced the Pirates at UMES, finishing 19th with a 27:46.41 over the 8K course, while sophomore Je'Von Hutchison ran a 29:21.89 to finish 36th and sophomore Jaleel Rogers was 40th with a 29:46.98.
Sophomore Larry Ramirez was 41st after running a 29:47.53, while freshman Edose Ibadin ran a 30:12.25 to come in 44th.
Freshman Evan Williams finished 51st with a 31:19.40.
