MEAC Announces Cross Country Weekly Honors

Norfolk State senior Josef Tessema and Florida A&M junior Chandelic Jackson were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Tessema (Sr., Springfield, Va.) won the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia with a time of 25:00.70. As a team, the Spartans finished third on the 8,000 meter course.  

Jackson (Jr., Dallas, Ga.) ran a season-best 19:35.78 on a 5K course to win the Albany State Invitational.  Jackson also competed at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational and finished in third place in 21:05 on the 3,200 meter course.

Other Top Performers:

Ricy Brown (B-CU) was fifth on the 5K course with a time of 17:53 at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational.


Irene Cherubet (CSU) won the Delaware State Invitational in 19:55.82 and aided the Lady Eagles to a fourth place finish.


Kadian Dunkley (B-CU) finished in first with a time of 20:37 at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational.

Dominique Givance (SSU) aided her team to a second place finish in 23:38 at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational.

Donte' Holmes (DSU) was among the top ten finishers at the Delaware State Invitational with a time of 17:11.22

Ruben Israel-McBee (SSU) paced the Wildcats with a time of 17:35 on the 5K course at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational.

Eunice Jones (UMES) was second with a time of 19:57.12 at the Delaware State Invitational.

Basil Melek (UMES) won the Delaware State Open and guided his team to a first place finish with a time of 15:34.27.

Dashera Richardson (DSU) took home fifth place honors in 21:03.15 at the Delaware State Invite.

Patrice Rowe (MSU) led the Lady Bears to a second place finish in 20:40.38 at the Delaware State Invite.

Paris Simmons (NCAT) won the North Carolina Central/North Carolina A&T relay with a time of 10.98.  

Christian Smooth (MSU) led Morgan State with a time of 16:28.11 at the Delaware State Invitational.

Dreanna Wallace (NCCU) finished third and aided her team to a first place finish at the North Carolina Central/North Carolina A&T Relay.

Shauib Winters (FAMU) won the Bethune-Cookman Invite and guided his team to a first place finish with a time of 17:27.
