MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Bethune-Cookman junior Krysta Gardner was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore's Saitaua Iosia earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Gardner (5-8, Jr., OH, Ashburn, Va.) aided her team to a 2-1 mark last week as co-champions of the Clarion Classic, hosted by Stetson. Gardner totaled 64 kills and added 38 digs in the defensive effort. In a 3-1 victory over Wofford, she recorded a MEAC season-high 28 kills and recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 14 digs.


Iosia (5-10, Fr., OH, Long Beach, Calif.) earned All-Tournament honors and guided her team to a 2-1 finish at the Bryant Invitational last weekend. The outside hitter tallied 50 kills, 37 digs and six blocks in three matches. Against Harvard, Iosia hit 34-percent from the floor with 14 kills and 10 digs.  


Other Top Performers:

Charlotte Armstead (NSU) totaled 44 kills in three matches for the Spartans.

Ashlee Butler (SSU) averaged 15 assists per match in four matches for SSU at the Clarion Classic, hosted by Stetson.


Maria Ceccarelli (FAMU) earned All-Tournament honors at the Miami Tournament with a total of 35 kills and 13 digs.

Aubrianna Curtis (B-CU) combined for 16 kills and 20 digs in three matches for the Lady Wildcats.

Tosin Elebute (How) totaled 48 kills, 29 digs and six blocks in three matches to earn All-Tournament honors at the Rutgers Invite. 

Ashley Johnson (MSU) posted 12 kills on 28 attacks against Furman.

Gabrielle Otero (CSU) set a school record with 32 digs against Lafayette.

Nangeeshie Plaud (MSU) hit 36-percent from the floor with 15 kills in a loss to Campbell.

Adriana Ramos (NSU) tallied a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Desiree Waller (SCSU) recorded 30 kills and 14 total blocks in three matches for the Lady Bulldogs.

Salena Weekly (CSU) combined for 21 kills and 16 blocks in three matches for the Lady Eagles.
