UMES? Castro Named To ECAC Division I All-Stars Second Team

Maryland Eastern Shore catcher Charlise Castro has been named to the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)  Division I All-Stars second team, the conference has announced.

The selections were voted on by the Division I softball coaches belonging to the ECAC, which composes of 88 members in the Mid-Atlantic and New England area.

Castro led the Hawks during her rookie campaign in nearly all offensive categories this season, including batting average (.409), runs (32), doubles (12), home runs (13), runs batted in (42), slugging percentage (.810), walks (18), on-base percentage (.472) and sacrifice flies (4).

She ranked nationally among some of the top in the NCAA.  Her slugging percentage ranked 15th in Division I plus was 42nd in home runs per game with .28.

Castro adds to her awards from the season, including being named the MEAC Rookie of the Year and a All-MEAC first team selection.

Along with Castro, outfielder Jordan Reid of Delaware State was also named to the second team.
