The defending women’s and men’s MEAC Champion South
Carolina State University tennis teams will take on the University of Florida,
for the second consecutive year in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tennis
Championship Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, the NCAA Committee announced on
Tuesday afternoon from Indianapolis.
Florida men's and women's tennis teams were chosen
as one of 16 hosts of the NCAA First and Second Round Championship matches, which
will be held May 13-15 at UF's Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
The seven-time
defending MEAC Champion Lady Bulldogs (16-2) will face the No. 1 nationally ranked Lady
Gators (25-1) in the First Round contest on Saturday, May 14 at Noon.
South Carolina State women's team is making its
seventh straight appearance in the NCAA Championship. Florida is making its
29th appearance, of the 30-year history, missing only the 1986 event.
This is the third
meeting between the two women’s programs with the Lady Gators holding a 2-0
advantage. The winner of the first round match will advance to the second-round
on Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs (13-4) who earned their fourth consecutive
MEAC title will also take on the seventh seeded Gators of Florida (18-8) in the
Gainesville regional. The men will get underway on Sunday, May 13 beginning at
1 p.m.
The winner of the
match will face the winner of Nebraska (15-12) and Miami (14-8) on
Saturday, May 14 beginning at 3 p.m.
