Reid, Garcia Earn NFCA Honors

Reid Named To Louisville Slugger/NFCA  All-Region Team

Delaware State junior Jordan Reid was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic First Team Thursday.

A total of 258 players from 126 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.

While Reid garnered Second Team honors last season, she is the first DSU player to ever be named to the First Team.  She is also the fourth Hornet to earn the honors, joining Patty Brown (2000), Janice Savage (2004) and Catrina Ansbach (2006).

Additionally, she is the lone MEAC player on the First Team list.

Previously this year, Reid was named the Delaware State University Female Athlete of the Year and back-to-back MEAC Softball Player of the Year.

Through NCAA play on Tuesday, Reid is third overall in the nation with a .497 batting average and led the MEAC by nearly 90 points.  She also posted 77 hits on the season, 16 more than second place.  The DSU outfielder is tied for first in the league with five triples and third in total bases with 98.  Her on-base percentage of .551 is good for 13th in the nation.

Garcia Garners NFCA Southeast Region 2nd Team Honors

Bethune-Cookman pitcher Allison Garcia was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Southeast Region Second Team, it was announced today.

The senior from Chino Hills, Calif., leads the Wildcats in both hitting (.374 average with 9 HR and 56) and pitching (26-11 record with a 3.54 ERA and 133 strikeouts).

Last week, Garcia collected her second MEAC tournament Outstanding Performer award as she helped B-CU repeat as champions. She was named the MEAC 2011 Pitcher of the Year.

The NFCA All-Region teams honor student-athletes from ten regions. A total of 258 players from 126 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.
