Delaware State Defeats Howard, 4-3
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Breanne Parr and senior Andrea Waters combined for three RBI in the top of the seventh inning as the Delaware State defeated Howard, 4-3, in the series finale Wednesday afternoon at Banneker Field.
The Bison scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning off of two errors and three hits to take a 2-0 lead before the Lady Hornets responded in the top of the fourth with a run of their own off of a homer from junior Casey Beighly.
Howard went up 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a home run from junior Rebecca Kirshner.
DSU led off the seventh inning with two consecutive singles from freshmen Ashlyn Campbell and Ashley Davis. With one out, Parr singled in the two runners to tie the game at 3-3. Junior Chelsea Stern then came in as a pinch-runner for Parr.
With two outs in the inning, Stern advanced to second on a wild pitch from junior Samantha Gatson and then moved to third on an error by senior catcher Christine Sborz. Senior Emily Johnson replaced Gatson on the mound and then gave up the eventual game-winning run off of an RBI double from Waters to score Stern.
Freshman Stephanie Sarris earned the win for the Lady Hornets as she gave up just one run (earned), two hits, one walk and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched.
Campbell started the game for DSU and pitched one-plus innings before being moved to the designated player spot. Campbell re-entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and pitched a perfect inning to earn the save.
The Lady Hornets improve to 19-10 on the season and 2-1 in MEAC play. The Bison move to 10-18 and 1-2 in the MEAC.

Elon Sluggers Too Much For NCCU
ELON, N.C. - North Carolina Central suffered a doubleheader loss to Elon, dropping the Lady Eagles to 4-26 on the season. NCCU competed in two contests Thursday evening, where Elon grasped an 8-0 victory in game one and seized a 20-0 win in game two.
The Phoenix obtained their first game by slugging 8 runs off of 13 hits. Elon's Kaitlyn Piazolla was 2-for-2 from the plate. Eight other Phoenix student-athletes contributed to the team's 13 runs.
Lady Eagle sophomore Kayla McPeek claimed the mound for the entire game. In her 5.2 innings of play, McPeek struck out one of the 32 batters faced and allowed eight runs and 13 hits.
Erin O'Shea was the Elon pitching choice for game one, in 6.0 innings O'Shea struck out 15 batters and only permitted one walk.
The Phoenix continued their success in game two of the doubleheader. In five innings of competition, Elon captured 20 runs and 23 hits. Emarld Graham was prefect from the plate for Elon, going 3-for-3. Piazolla carried over her solid hitting from game one with two hits and two runs. Camille Hill also went 2-for-2 from home plate.
Three Lady Eagle pitchers saw the circle, Aurora Baker began at the mound. Until she was relieved by Shamika Chavis-Hodge, who was then relieved by McPeek. In 1.1 innings of play, Baker allowed 12 runs and 13 hits. Chavis-Hodge pitched for one inning, where she granted seven runs and six hits. With McPeek closing out at the mound, Elon whacked their final run and three hits.
Lauren Taylor claimed the mound in game two. The Elon pitcher threw seven strikeouts and walked one batter.
