GREENSBORO - Senior men's basketball player Thomas Coleman has been chosen to play in the 8th Annual Historical Black College All-Star Classic on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Civic Center in Columbus, Ga. The game tips at 7:45 p.m. Coleman also added to his postseason honors when he was named to one of The National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District teams.
Coleman (6-9, 240, Louisville, Ky.) ranked among the nation's leaders in field goal percentage (4th), double-doubles (8th), rebounds (13th) and blocked shots (17th). He scored 20 or more points 11 times during the 2010-11 season, and recorded double-figure points and rebounds 19 times. He ended his career with 1,285 points, 969 rebounds and 298 blocked shots. Coleman is the school's all-time leader in blocked shots and field goal percentage.
The All-Star Classic features players from the MEAC, SWAC, SIAC and CIAA who play against one another in a contest between East and West. Coleman will be among 24 seniors showcasing their talents in front of NBA and international scouts. Information about tickets for the game can be found on hbcallstarclassic.com.
Coleman's placement on the All-District team adds to a season in which he was also named first-team All-MEAC. The NABC recognizes the nation's best men's basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 245 student-athletes, from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America teams, to be announced on Saturday, April 2, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT) at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston during the NABC Convention and NCAA Final Four.
