FAMU Downs North Carolina A&T, 12-4 On ESPNU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 15) - Florida A&M plated six runs in the bottom of the second inning as they defeated North Carolina A&T, 12-4 Friday afternoon at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex, broadcasted live on ESPNU.

FAMU (20-20, 3-1 MEAC) belted out 11 hits, while NCAT (6-24, 1-3 MEAC) garnered nine.

The Lady Rattlers were led by Jasmin Donaldson and Whitney Robinson as they collected two hits each on the day.  In addition, Robinson and Genesis Lopez led team in RBIs with three each. 

N.C. A&T had three Lady Aggies to finish with two hits each in Morgan Chappell, Sabrina Edmonds and Lauren Clement.

Whitney Robinson (11-10) picked the win for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up nine hits, three earned runs and striking out two in five innings on the mound for FAMU, while Hope Fletcher (5-11) received the loss for the Lady Aggies as she gave up six hits and eight runs in one and two-third inning of play.

The Lady Aggies scored a run in the top of the first as Tiffany Macklin scored on a FAMU infielder's error, to take a 1-0 lead.

FAMU recaptured the lead in the bottom of the second inning as both Ashanti Shepherd and  Donaldson scored on a FAMU error.

N.C. A& T tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second inning as Detavia Kenan scored on a Tiffany Macklin sacrifice fly to center field.

The Lady Rattlers scored six runs  in the bottom of the second inning as they pounded out five hits  and took advantage of one Lady Aggie error, to take a 8-2 lead.

Chappell, who doubled in her at-bat, cut FAMU's lead to 9-3 as she scored on an Edmond single to left field in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Rattlers added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Francesca Singletary doubled down the leftfield line scoring Donaldson, then Singletary would score on a Aria Steward ground out to the short stop, giving FAMU a 10-3 lead.

A Macklin single through the left side scoring Clement, cut FAMU's lead to 10-4 in the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Robinson hit a two-run walk off homer for the 12-4 win, invoking the eight-run mercy rule.
