2011 MEAC Men's Tennis Championship Update

Men's opening round action has completed with Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Norfolk State and South Carolina State advancing to the semi-final round of play. First serve is set for 5 p.m. today.

Norfolk State upset the number one seed in the North, Howard University 4-1 to advance to the semi-final round. Christian Romanzini secured the win for the Spartan winning two sets to one over Howard's Eric Chavious. (3-6, 6-1, 6-4). NSU will face Florida A&M in the semi-final round at 5 p.m.

In match two, Bethune-Cookman defeated Morgan State 4-2 to secure their spot in the semi-final round of competition. At the number five singles position, BC-U's Kip Jackson defeated Aaron Benjamin of Morgan State 6-2, 6-1 to secure the win for the Wildcats. They will face South Carolina State at 5 p.m. in the semi-final round

South Carolina State swept the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 4-0. In doubles action, SCSU defeated UMES in two sets (8-0, 8-0) to earn the doubles point. They would go on the secure the win at the number five singles position , with David Grund sweeping  Osvaldo Rivera 6-0, 6-0. The Bulldogs will face Bethune-Cookman in the 5 p.m. semi-final match

Rounding out the men's opening round, Florida A&M defeated Hampton 4-0 advancing to the semi-final round. Clinching the win for FAMU was senior Michael Moore with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hampton's Marcelo Reda. FAMU will match-up with Norfolk State as they compete for a slot in tomorrow's championship match. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
