NSU?s O?Quinn Named to Two All-America Teams

Norfolk State junior center Kyle O'Quinn was named to the BoxToRow.Com HBCU All-America first team and was one of 21 players named to the Mid-Major Defensive All-America team.

Players from the MEAC and SWAC, Division I HBCU independents and Tennessee State of the Ohio Valley Conference were considered for the BoxToRow.Com team. O'Quinn was joined on the first team by Player of the Year C.J. Reed of Bethune-Cookman, Thomas Coleman of N.C. A&T, Trevele Jones of Texas Southern and C.J. Wilkerson of N.C. Central.

The Mid-Major Defensive All-America team features 21 players from schools outside the "power" conferences at the Division I level. Rather than selecting a first, second, third team and honorable mentions, the Mid-Major Defensive All-America squad is just one team. O'Quinn had a breakout year in 2010-11. The 6-10 post player ended the season ranked fourth in the nation in blocked shots (3.4), fifth in rebounding (11.1) and eight in double-doubles (19). He also led the Spartans and ranked fifth in the conference in scoring, at 16.4 points per game, and was second in the MEAC with a 55.6 field goal percentage.

O'Quinn was also a first-team All-MEAC and NABC All-District 15 selection, was voted MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state second team.
