Morgan State junior forward Kevin Thompson was named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its 24 All-District teams on Wednesday with Morgan State's Kevin Thompson being named First Team All-District 14. Sophomore DeWayne Jackson was selected to the Second Team All-District. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America.
Thompson (Walbrook), who was named second-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference two weeks ago, is averaging 12.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and was selected First Team All-District for the second year in a row. As a junior, Thompson completed the regular season with 12 double-doubles and continues to be one of the most dominant post players in the league. He earned the MEAC's Defensive Player of the Year during his sophomore season when he was selected to the 2010 MEAC First-Team and was also the MVP of the MEAC Tournament.
Jackson, who leads the Bears with 14.4 points per game and was named to the 2011 All-MEAC First Team, makes his second appearance on the NABC All-District list as he was a Second Team selection during his freshman year. The 6-foot-8 Bowie native ranks as the team's third leading rebounder, and he posted a career-high 31 points in the season-opener against Loyola Marymount. Jackson, who was the 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year, has scored double-figures 40 times during his career.
Thru 28 games this season, the Maryland products duo combine to average 27 points per game or 40 percent of Morgan State's scoring this season.
The other members of the District 15 first team include C.J. Reed of Bethune-Cookman, Kyle O'Quinn of Norfolk State, Darrion Pellum of Hampton and Thomas Coleman of North Carolina A&T. On the second team is Desi Washington of Delaware State, Kwame Morgan II of Hampton, Mike Phillips of Howard and Hillary Haley of Md. Eastern Shore.
