MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

South Carolina State sophomore Shannon Baity  and Coppin State junior Paige Arnold earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Monday. Delaware State's Ashlyn Campbell was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore's Charlise Castro earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Baity (INF, 5-5, So., Lithonia, Ga.)  guided the Lady Bulldogs to a 4-0 mark last week with six RBI, one home run and one triple. Baity hit .363 from the plate in 11 appearances and stole two bases. Defensively she aided SCSU with four assists and 30 putouts.

Arnold (P, 5-7, Jr.., Detroit, Mich.)  was 2-of-3 (.667)  from the plate with three RBI in a win over George Washington.  Arnold hit a three-run home run to guide the Lady Eagles to the 5-4 victory.  The pitcher also earned the victory at the mound striking out eight of the 30 batters she faced.  

Campbell (P, 5-9, Fr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif.)  went 2-0 last week with a 0.00 ERA including non-conference wins over Delaware and Colgate.  Campbell pitched a combined 10.1 innings and struck out 10 of the 46 batters faced.  She allowed just three runs in the two games and improved her record to 6-2 on the season.

Castro (C, 5-10, Fr., Saugerties, N.Y.) hit .567 from the plate last week with seven RBI and five home runs in four games.  The rookie scored eight runs in 15 appearances for the Lady Hawks.  She added five assists and 13 putouts in the defensive effort.  

Other Top Performers:

Morgan Boyd (NSU) averaged .600 from the plate (3-of-5) in two games for the Spartans.

Kelsey Crochow (SCSU) was 2-of-4 from the plate with two RBI in a win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Vianney Gomez (SCSU) pitched 14.2 innings with 11 strikeouts, four walks and a .070 ERA for the Lady Bulldogs.

Whitney Holland (NSU) recorded four RBI and one home run while hitting .333 from the plate to aid the Spartans to a 1-1 mark.

Detavia Kenan (NCAT) hit .417 in 12 appearances at the plate with two RBI, one home run and one double in four games for the Lady Aggies.

(FAMU) allowed one run and struck out one batter in four innings of play.

Casey Pomeroy (NSU) improved to 3-3 on the season with a non-conference win over Hampton.

Jordan Reid (DSU) tallied nine hits, while averaging a .643 from the plate in 14 at-bats to aid the Lady Hornets to a 4-0 mark last week.
