Hampton University junior guard Kwame Morgan was named to the 2011 Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America Team on Friday.
Morgan, a All-MEAC second team selection, was second on the team in scoring this year at 16.1 points per game. His 100 made 3-pointers on the season were the most in the MEAC, eighth in the nation and the second-most in school history behind the 106 made 3-pointers by Tommy Adams in 2001-02.
Morgan scored in double figures 26 times this season as the Pirates went 24-9 and won the MEAC Tournament, including a career-high 36 points on Jan. 17 in an 82-77 win over North Carolina A&T. He also scored 30 points in the MEAC semifinals against Norfolk State on March 11 and on Jan. 31 in a nationally-televised game against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Two of Hampton's wins this season also came from Morgan; he sank game-winning 3-pointers in the closing seconds against Liberty on Dec. 22 and against Colorado State on Jan. 1. The two-time MEAC Player of the Week (Jan. 3, Jan. 24) averaged 19.3 points per game in the MEAC Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The 2011 Lou Henson Player of the Year will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet on Friday in Houston, Texas, site of the men's basketball championship.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major players in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson, who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005, he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779.
He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State, and he is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
