BCU?s Reed Garners NABC District 15 Coach Of The Year Honors

Bethune-Cookman Men's Head Basketball Coach Clifford Reed was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 15 Coach Of The Year, it was announced Monday.

Reed led the Wildcats to their finest Division I season in 2010-2011, which saw B-CU compile a 21-13 record and its first MEAC regular season championship. Though B-CU fell in the MEAC tournament semifinals, the Wildcats advanced to post-season play for the first time as a Division I member, earning a berth in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).

During the regular season, B-CU posted a perfect 8-0 road record in conference play, with six of those games decided by three points or less.

Reed and his son, junior guard CJ Reed, were named MEAC Coach and Player Of The Year, respectively, earlier this month.

"It's always an honor to be recognized by your peers," Coach Reed said. "Like I said after the MEAC regular season honors were announced, this is a staff and program award. I was surrounded by top-flight assistants and staff and had players who bought into what we were teaching and they executed the game plan. I'm proud of everyone."
