The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) completed the second day of the 2011 MEAC Bowling Championship at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Top seeded Maryland Eastern Shore rolled their way to the championship round defeating South Carolina State (4-1), Hampton (4-2) and Morgan State (4-2) in the winner’s bracket. The Lady Hawks await the winner of tomorrow’s Delaware State/Morgan State semifinal match-up to determine the final championship pair. Maryland Eastern Shore, who won their last MEAC championship title in 2008, will vie for their fifth championship title overall.
The defending MEAC Champion Delaware State Lady Hornets advanced to the semifinal round after defeating No. 7 Bethune-Cookman in match three and falling to No. 6 Morgan State in match six, 4-3. The Lady Hornets rallied back in their final two matches with victories over No. 4 Norfolk State (4-2) and No. 5 Hampton (4-2) to advance to tomorrow’s semifinal.
Morgan State defeated No.3 Florida A&M and No.2 Delaware State before falling to Maryland Eastern Shore in the winner’s bracket. The Lady Bears will face Delaware State for the second time during the championship in the semifinal for a slot in tomorrow’s finale.
The 2011 MEAC Bowling Championship wraps up on Sunday, March 20 at 10 a.m. beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship finale at 11:45 a.m. The championship match will be televised in a tape-delayed format and will air on ESPNU on March 28 at 7 p.m.
Admission to the bowling championship is free and open to the public.
