Dudley Homer Lifts Coppin State To Dramatic Victory Over Mount St. Mary's

Senior Jade Dudley hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning lifting Coppin State to a 4-3 victory and a split of its doubleheader with Mount St. Mary's on Thursday at Meadows Field.

The Eagles trailed 3-1 entering the top of the seventh inning and were down to their final three outs before staging a dramatic rally.

Stacey Burgos started the rally with a one-out single to left and Amber Miller followed with an infield single to put runners on first and second. Dudley then crushed a 1-0 pitch to centerfield scoring Burgos and pinch runner Latifah Bernard and giving the Eagles a 4-3 lead.

Paige Arnold came in relief of starter Tiffani Whaley and retired the first two batters of the inning. Beth Everist doubled and Alyssa Silpino followed with a walk, but Amber Miller gunned down Everist stealing third to end the Eagles seven-game losing streak.

Whaley picked up the victory after pitching six innings and allowing three runs and striking out two.

Mount St. Mary's won the first game 1-0 behind Nicole Pagano. Pagano went seven innings and allowed only three hits while striking out eight batters.

Arnold allowed five hits and one run with nine strikeouts for Coppin State in game one.

Burgos had four hits, two in each game, to lead the Eagles offense. Heather Josker had one hit in each game and Miller and Dudley each had hits in game two.
