MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

Delaware State junior Jordan Reid earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in softball, the conference announced on Wednesday. Teammate Ashlyn Campbell was named the Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State's Kathy Cortez earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Reid (OF,  5-8, Jr., Accokeek, Md.) earned a hit in every game, while averaging .409 from the plate in 22 at-bat appearances.  The outfielder tallied seven runs and four RBI in eight games for the Lady Hornets.  She also stole one base and walked three times.

Campbell (P, Fr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif.)  finished 2-2 last week with a 3.45 ERA including wins over Alabama State and Mount St. Mary's.  She pitched a combined 19.2 innings striking out 23 of the 94 batters faced. Martin recorded a 0.00 ERA against Mount St. Mary's, striking out nine and allowing just two hits, two walks and no earned runs.

Cortez (C/3B, 5-3, Fr., Pomona, Calif.) averaged .421 from the plate with two RBI, including one double.  In 19 appearances at the plate, Cortez aided her team with eight runs. Defensively, she added eight assists and 18 putouts.

Other Top Performers:

Morgan Chappell (NCAT) recorded two RBI, one home run and one double while hitting .333 from the plate for the Lady Aggies.
