The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced the suspension of six student-athletes resulting from an altercation following the North Carolina A&T State at Coppin State women's basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The altercation, which was investigated by the conference office, concluded that four student-athletes from Coppin State and two from North Carolina A&T State violated the NCAA's Basketball Rule 4, Section 26. By rule, all individuals in violation shall be suspended from participating in the team's next regular-season game.
"It is unfortunate that this incident occurred but we expect our student-athletes, coaches, and other athletic personnel to demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during and after each contest," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas.
The MEAC has accepted a one-game suspension for three of the Coppin State's student-athletes that were self-imposed by the institution following the incident. One additional student-athlete from CSU will carry out her one-game suspension in the Lady Eagles upcoming contest against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Both North Carolina A&T student-athletes also will serve out their one-game suspensions in the team's next game against Delaware State, on Saturday.
No additional comments will be made.
