Savannah State University athletics director Marilynn Suggs has named Schannon Gamble as the new SSU head volleyball coach.
Gamble comes to Savannah State from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where she served as head volleyball coach and academic coordinator.
While at Lincoln, she was a 2008 graduate of the Women's Coaches Academy and coached the first player in Lincoln history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Gamble worked at North Carolina Central University from 1999-2005. While at NCCU, she was the assistant volleyball coach and the administrative assistant to the compliance director. As an assistant, Gamble helped the Eagles win their first CIAA Championship in 1999, followed by 2004, and 2005.
Her duties at NCCU included recruiting, handling team travel arrangements, developing the volleyball team handbook and developing study programs for student-athletes. Gamble served as the fund-raising chair of the NCCU Physical Education Recreation Majors Association. Gamble was the head volleyball and track coach at the North Carolina School of Science.
Gamble earned a Master's Degree in Leadership and received her undergrad at North Carolina Central University in Sport Management/Business. She also has an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas.
She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Administrators (NACWAA), American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletes
