MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

Hampton guard Jericka Jenkins was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore's LaKendra Wilkerson received Rookie of the Week honors, while Howard's Cheyenne Curley-Payne earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Jenkins (Guard, 5-4, Jr.  Lancaster, Texas) averaged 19.5 points, 10.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals to aid the Lady Pirates against North Carolina Central and Norfolk State. Defeating North Carolina Central, Jenkins posted 17 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and stole one pass. In a win against Norfolk State, she scored 22 points, nine assists and four steals in the 74-53 victory. For the week, Jenkins shot 59.1 percent from the floor and 91.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Wilkerson (Forward, 5-10, Fr., Greensboro, North Carolina) shot a 54 percent from the floor while totaling 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Hawks. Against North Carolina A&T, she scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds and added three steals in the 68-80 overtime loss.

Curley-Payne (Guard, 5-5, So., Chula Vista, California) totaled 19 rebounds and seven steals in two games for the Lady Bison. Against South Carolina State, she grabbed 12 rebounds and three steals in the 59-25 victory. 

Other Top Performers:

Sarah Bolden (B-CU) averaged 22.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks against Morgan State and Delaware State.

Kianna Conner (DSU) totaled 23 points for the Lady Hornets in two games. 

Rae Corbo (NSU) averaged 8.5 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals for the Spartans.

Saadia Doyle (How) combined for 29 points and 16 rebounds in match-ups against South Carolina State and North Carolina A&T.

Casey Morton (UMES) tallied 26 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Lady Hawks in two games.

Shawntae Payne (CSU) averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Lady Eagles against Florida A&M and South Carolina State

Chelsea Sanders (UMES) averaged 14.0 points and was perfect from the charity stripe (5-of-5) last week.
