Hampton To Face North Carolina A&T In MEAC Doubleheader on ESPNU

 

The Hampton women's and men's basketball teams will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to face the North Carolina A&T Aggies during a nationally televised doubleheader, Monday, February 14.  The games will broadcast live on ESPNU beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the women's game and a 7 p.m. start for the men's game.  

The defending MEAC champion Hampton Lady Pirates (18-6, 10-1 MEAC) extended their winning streak to six with a 74-53 victory against Norfolk State on Saturday night. Junior guard Jericka Jenkins led the Lady Pirates with 22 points and nine assists, while junior guard Choicetta McMillian added 20 points.

North Carolina A&T (11-11, 7-4 MEAC) has won two straight after beating Howard 58-54 on Saturday at the Corbett Sports Center. Sophomore guard Jaquayla Berry led the Lady Aggies with 26 points, while senior forward Jaleesa Sams added 10 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. The Lady Aggies boast a 30-game win streak at home against conference opponents, dating back to February 17, 2007.

In men's action, Hampton (19-5, 9-2 MEAC) defeated Norfolk State, 86-72, to record its fourth straight win.  Junior guards Darrion Pellum and Kwame Morgan aided the Pirates with 26 and 19 points, respectively.

North Carolina A&T (11-14, 6-5 MEAC) defeated Howard 68-49 at home on Saturday. Senior center Thomas Coleman led the Aggies with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Adrian Powell contributed 12 points in the win.

The 2011 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips off March 7-12 at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC.

The 2011 MEAC Basketball Championships will air on the ESPN networks with the men's championship game televised live on March 12 on ESPN2 beginning at 2 p.m. and the women's championship game scheduled for a taped-delayed telecast airing on March 13 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
