FAMU's Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Top Mercer

Lady Rattlers Down Mercer, 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 13) - Florida A&M picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Mercer, 6-1 in their home opener, Saturday afternoon at the FAMU Tennis Court.

The Lady Rattlers five of the six singles matches and won doubles points with  sweep of the doubles.

 Lady Rattlers were paced by Alexis Brown, Latreece Olagbegi and Kathline Durden as they won their matches in straight sets.

Brown downed Lucie Payrat, 6-3, 6-2 in the number two single, while Olagbegi picked up the win in number three singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Aurelie De Montjou.

In number four singles, Durden handed Sarah Hannah a 6-3, 6-1 loss in straight sets.

FAMU Edges Mercer, 4-3

In their home opener, the Florida A&M pulled out a 4-3 win over Mercer, Saturday afternoon a the FAMU Tennis Court.

The Rattlers picked up wins in the number two, four and six singles, and the doubles point as they won all three sets in doubles play.

Levan Clark picked the win in the number two singles as he defeated Peter Tauchner in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. 

Chidi Gabriel won the number four singles for the Rattlers as he won the first set 7-5 and the second set 6-4 over Evandro Rosindo.

Temuera Asafu-Adjaye won the number six singles to give the Rattlers the 4-3 win as he defeated David Barton.  Barton won the first set 6-4, but Asafu-Adjay would rebound in the second set winning 6-4 forcing the tie breaker.  Asafu-Adjay would win the tie breaker 6-4 for the win.
