Turnovers Hinder DSU In 89-35 Loss At #22 Texas
Austin, Texas. -Delaware State recorded 35 total turnovers and a 19.7 shooting percentage en route to an 89-35 loss to no. 22/25 Texas Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Center Wednesday afternoon.
The 35 turnovers were the most for the Lady Hornets since Jan. 24, 2009, when DSU posted 40 turnovers against Bethune-Cookman. They also gave up a season-high 52 rebounds to the Longhorns.
Sophomore Tasia Bristow led the Lady Hornets in scoring for the fifth straight game with nine points. Freshman Alexis Thornton contributed eight for DSU. Del State failed to have a single player scored in double digits for just the second time this season.
UT outshot DSU, 52.5 percent (32-for-61) to 19.7 percent (12-for-61) on the day. The Longhorns also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Lady Hornets, 46-12. Texas, ranked third in the country in blocked shots, collected 11 in the game. UT's Ashley Gayle recorded a game-high four blocks.
Ashleigh Fontenette posted a game-high 14 points for Texas on 6-of-9 shooting. Chassidy Fussell, Yvonne Anderson and Anne Marie Hartung each added 12 points for the Longhorns. Nneka Enemkpali collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Final Home Game Of 2011 Results In 56-45 NCCU Loss To Gardner-Webb
DURHAM, N.C.- With an eight-point lead in their grasp in the opening minutes of competition, North Carolina Central relinquished its power to concluded the Wednesday night matchup with a 45-56 loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on Dec. 28.
In the final home contest of 2011, sophomore Tenika Neely, who was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw, and junior Chasidy Williams finished the night with 10 points apiece, while solo senior Blaire Houston ended the contest with nine points. Sophomore Alesha Jenkins pulled down five rebounds, as Houston and Neely circulated two assists each.
Jasmine Dale led the Lady Bulldogs to victory off a team-high 15 points, while Catrina Green finished with a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds. Brianna Dillard, who was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line finished with seven points and lead the squad in assists with two, as Dale, who 50 percent from behind the arc and a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe, led in steals with three.
The Lady Bulldogs were 43 percent from the field on 22-of-51, 3-of-9 from the long range, and 64 percent from the free-throw line, 9-of-14.

Howard dominates Seton Hall, 63-44
South Orange, N.J---December 28--- Saadia Doyle and Tamoria Holmes completed the game with a combined total of 43 points to guide Howard to a 19 point victory (63-44) over the Seton Hall Pirates (7-7) on Dec. 28.
To jump into a great match, Howard (7-5) came out on fire with six straight points. Jasmine Crew ended the Bison run with a trey at the 17:33 mark. The Pirates did not let up as they continued to go toe-to-toe with HU. HU continued to gain momentum as it put up an 11-2 run to increase the margin to 29-13 by the 3:17 mark. To end the first 20 minute segment, HU held the advantage with a 31-19 cushion over SHU.
Halftime notes: The Lady Bison went 4-4, from the free throw line, out-rebounded Seton Hall 17-16 and forced the Pirates into 12 turnovers.
Holmes tallied a game-high 23 points - including 15 of them in the first half. Doyle notched 20 points and six boards, while Cheyenne Curley-Payne dished out a game best eight assist. Zykia Brown pitched in with nine boards off the bench and six points.
The Pirates were led by Crew who tallied 13 points for the night. Tajay Ashmeade pulled down a game high of 14 off the glass.
Game notes: HU held SHU's leading scorer, Crew, to 13 points after averaging 19 prior to the game. SHU went 4-18 (22 percent) from behind the arc and 16-51 (31 percent) from the field. Howard dominated the Pirates in fast break points, 18-2. HU also owned the paint by outscoring Seton Hall 24-12. The Bison won the battle of the boards, 39-31.

VCU Pulls Away From Lady Bears, 73-52
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2011)-Courtney Hurt scored a game-high 32 points on 12-of-26 shooting and added a career- and game-high 21 rebounds, while Andrea Barbour added 23 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six steals to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 73-52 victory over Morgan State in the opener of the Miami Holiday Tournament on Wednesday evening at the BankUnited Center.
Morgan State, which was making a return trip to Miami from last season's Miami Holiday Classic, was looking to reach the championship game for the second consecutive year against the host Hurricanes.
Morgan State was led by DeKeisha Mathis, who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, both team highs. Hicks came off the bench and scored 10 points, while Chyress Lockhart added nine points and five rebounds. Moneshia Davis led the team in steals with three to go with her five rebounds, two assists and block.

Lady Pirates Dominate In Win Over Central Michigan
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Hampton issued a dominating performance on Wednesday night, upending Central Michigan 77-51 at the Fogelman Arena in the opening night of the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic.
The Lady Pirates (9-2) have won two straight and seven of their last eight games. Hampton will take on tournament host Tulane on Thursday at 9 p.m. EST in the tournament's championship game.
Senior guard Choicetta McMillian led the way with 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while senior guard Jericka Jenkins added 16 points and a team-high seven assists. Sophomore forward Ariel Phelps poured in 11 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Junior forward Keiara Avant added 11 points in the win.
Central Michigan (7-6) shot 40.4 percent (21-for-52), but only made one of 17 3-pointers - marking the fourth time this season the Lady Pirates have held an opponent to just one 3-pointer. The Chippewas were just 8-for-13 from the free throw line.
Jessica Green led Central Michigan with 17 points.

Lady Cats Will Out 2OT Win Against UNF 66-63
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - One triple overtime game per season is enough. And just when it appeared that Bethune-Cookman was headed for its second in a week, Jasmine Elum helped the Lady Wildcats avoid that with a jumper with 2.1 seconds remaining for a 66-63 double overtime victory over North Florida in Moore Gymnasium.
It appeared that another five minute session was in order when B-CU committed a shot clock violation. However, Demetria Frank made a steal at half court and fed to Elum, who shot in traffic near the free throw line. After a UNF turnover and foul, Sharnese Neal added an insurance free throw with 0.1 seconds left.
Frank's stat line: 16 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals.
Cleniece Roberts (14 points, seven rebounds) sent the game into overtime with a lay-up with 52 seconds remaining that tied it at 52. Elum had six points in the first OT, but UNF (4-8) extended the game on Larika Jones' that made it 58-58 with two minutes to play.
Brittany Kirkland led UNF with 22. She torched B-CU early for 15 points in the opening 10 minutes, but B-CU's double-teams limited her the rest of the way.
