Rattlers Shot Down By UNF Ospreys 90-63

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Florida A&M Rattlers ( 2-11, 0-1 MEAC) were not able to cool down the red hot University of North Florida Ospreys (6-7) as they were bombarded to the tune of 90-63 today at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.

The game marked the return of All-MEAC forward Amin Stevens to the team. Stevens came off the bench to contribute immediately, scoring a basket within :30 seconds of entering the game. He followed that up with a three-pointer, forcing the Ospreys to spread out their defense. Stevens would finish the game leading the Rattlers with 24 points. He would be the only Rattler in double figures, but a total of 10 Rattlers scored in the game.

The Rattlers shot 34.4 percent from the field in the first half and 45.2 percent in the second half, for a 39.7 percent average for the game. From the three-point arc, they shot 37.5 percent in the first half and 50 percent in the second half, for a 41.7 percent game average.

The Rattlers never were able to collar the Ospreys as coach Clemon Johnson juggled his lineup to find a mix to offset the onslaught. While the addition of Stevens was definitely a plus on the offensive side, the team chemistry will need adjusting. The Rattlers made 13 turnovers. Stevens also led the team in rebounding with five.

Scoring Drought Hampers Aggies In Loss To Zips

AKRON, Ohio-The North Carolina A&T men's basketball team zipped out to a quick start against Akron, but struggled to score in the second half. The Aggies' lack of consistency in scoring resulted in a 79-52 loss to the Zips Wednesday night.

After shooting 35 percent in the first half, the Aggies (4-9) only managed to shoot 21 percent (5-for-24) in the second.

But then senior guard Nic Simpson, who led the Aggies with 13 points from the bench, was fouled by Diggs, and nailed all three free throws to cut it to an 11-point game at 56-45 with 11:28 left.  Akron put the game away by taking a 24-point lead on an 18-4 run to make it 74-50 with 3:46 minutes remaining.

The Aggies led by as much as 17-9 with 11:24 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Underwood, taking advantage of a slow start by Akron,  before the Zips took a 19-17 lead on a 3-pointer by McClanahan with 8:45 left on the clock.

The Aggies fought back to tie the game, and took a 27-24 lead with six minutes left on a 3-pointer from senior Marc Hill, who was twisting as he came down from the shot.  Hill added to the Aggies advantage with a layup, to make it a 29-24 game with 5:45 left in the contest.

Eagles Return To Form, Outlast Lumberjacks

EUGENE, Ore.– Junior Ebuka Anyaorah’s 16-first half points and sophomore Jeremy Ingram’s 11 points during a crucial stretch of the second half along with another solid defensive effort was just what the Eagles of North Carolina Central University needed to outlast the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin and earn a 65-57 victory in day two of the 2011 Global Sports Hoops Showcase on Wednesday evening at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore.

After trailing by six, the maroon and gray went on an 8-0 run to grab the lead back that stretched the margin out to eight following junior Ray Willis’s momentum changing three-pointer as the first half clock ran down as NCCU took a 28-20 lead into the locker room.

The star of the first 20 minutes was Anyaorah who carried the Eagles shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field that included 2-for-2 from the outside.  He ended up 16 points and finished with a game-high 18 points, tying his season-high that he reached back on Nov. 23 against Morris College.

On four straight possessions, Ingram scored 11 points to thwart off the Lumberjack rally and pulled the Eagles back up by eight, which was just enough to put NCCU up for good in winning the contest 65-57.

Sutton ended the night recording his fifth double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Willis rebounded from the rough shooting night in the loss to Oregon to muster up 11 points and 5 assists.
