MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va., December 19, 2011 - Coppin State's Tony Gallo was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Taariq Cephas, also of Coppin State, was named the Rookie of the Week while Kevin Thompson of Morgan State earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Gallo (G, 5-11, 190, Sr., Lynn, Mass.) scored a career-high 27 points to help the Eagles to a 71-57 win over Towson.  He connected on six shots from long range and added four assists, two rebounds, and one steal to help the team improve to 4-0 at home this season. 

Cephas (G, 5-9, 150, Fr., Bear, Del.) recorded 19 points shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the arc.  He also added five assists, three steals and two rebounds in the team's victory over Towson.

Thompson (F, 6-9, 250, Sr., Baltimore, Md.) grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked four baskets and stole one pass as he aided the Bears to a 73-60 win over Maryland-Baltimore County. Offensively he added 17 points, shooting 80-percent from the field, with four assists in the team's non-conference victory.

Other Top Performances

Blake Bozeman (MSU) scored 13 points and connected on 4-of-6 3-pointers with four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the Bear's victory over Maryland-Baltimore County.

D'Andre Bullard (FAMU) recorded 13 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field in 15 minutes of play against Akron.

Jeremy Dean (FAMU) hauled down a season-high 10 rebounds against Akron.

Pina Guillaume (UMES) posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds with one steal in a loss to Air Force.

Avery Moore (FAMU) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half in the Rattlers' loss to Akron.

Prince Okoroh (Howard) totaled 24 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists in a pair of non-conference games for the Bison.

Mike Phillips (Howard) recorded a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds with two blocks, two steals and one assist in a two-point loss to St. Francis (NY).
