Northwestern Holds Off Morgan State, 87-74

EVANSTON, Ill. -Kendall Hackney scored a game-high 29 points on 13-of-18 shooting and Morgan Jones added 20 points to lead host Northwestern to an 87-74 victory over Morgan State in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Dannielle Diamant added 14 points and Tailor Jones came off the bench and chipped in with 10 points for the Wildcats (8-1), who improved to 4-1 at home this season.

The Lady Bears (2-4), who were playing the sixth of 16 straight road games to start the season, were led by Chyress Lockhart, who scored 12 points in a reserve role and dished out a team-high four assists. DeKeish Mathis was limited to nine points, while four Lady Bear players added eight points.
 
Northwestern shot 51 percent and 41 percent from three-point range for the game. The Wildcats finished with 32 assists with Allison Mocchi leading the way with eight. The Wildcats out rebounded Morgan State, 51-37 and held a 13-2 advantage in blocks.
 
Morgan State shot 34 percent and 27 percent from three-point range. The Lady Bears held a 43-12 advantage in bench points and had 14 steals to the Wildcats' 11. Morgan State also forced 25 Northwestern turnovers, while committing 16 of their own.

Lady Eagles Tussle To 65-64 Victory Over Coker

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team maintained its second-half lead to clench a 65-64 victory over Coker College on Wednesday, Dec. 14 in McDougald-McLendon Gym for their second win of the season.

NCCU offensive leader junior Chasidy Williams topped the night with 25 points and 11 rebounds four her fourth double-double of the season, while senior Blaire Houston and junior Jasmine Alston, who was 2-of-3 from the long range, finished the night with eight points apiece.  Maroon and gray freshman Kabrina Truesdale pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, lobbed a career-high five assists and stole two Coker possessions.

In the second-home victory of the season, the Lady Eagles were 42 percent from the field on 27-of-65 shooting, 2-of-8 from behind the arc, and 47 percent from the charity stripe, 9-of-19. 

Along with Lau’s double-double and Alston’s 16 points, Kelley Godbout added an additional double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.  Heidi Kristmundsdottir circulated five assists and stole four NCCU possessions, while Lau blocked one shot.  The Cobras were 41 percent from the field on 26-of-64, 6-of-22 from the long range, and 50 percent from the free-throw line, 6-of-20. On the season, the maroon and gray advances to 2-8 and obtains the opening series victory, Coker drops to 0-7.

Lady Tigers Stop Losing Skid

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State women's basketball team stopped their three-game losing streak with a 41-36 win over Louisiana Lafayette at Tiger Arena.

The win gives SSU a 5-5 mark while The Cajuns fall to 4-5.

Kalu led SSU with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Alisha Smith added 8 rebounds while Blessing, Kirkland, Cuk and Smith all chipped in 8 points. The Lady Tigers shot 29.6 percent from the floor while Lafayette shot 28.8 percent. SSU won the rebounding battle 43 to 34 and made all eight of their free throw attempts. 

Lafayette was led by Michelle Brunker who had 7 points.
