Scores Career High 27 in Victory over Towson
BALTIMORE --
Senior Tony Gallo scored a career-high 27 points, including
17 in the second half, as Coppin State snapped a four-game losing
streak to Towson with a 71-57 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday in
the Physical Education Complex.
Gallo,
who led the Eagles in scoring for the eighth time in nine games, made
six three-point field goals and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
His previous career high was 26 points at Maryland Eastern Shore last
year.
The
Eagles, who improved to 4-0 at home, raised their record 4-5 overall
and notched their first victory over the Tigers since 1993.
Coppin
State also received 19 points from freshman Taariq Cephas and
eight points and six rebounds from senior Michael Harper.
Towson,
who dropped to 0-10 on the season, was paced by Marcus Damas who had
16 points and Robert Nwankwo who scored 15 points.

O'Quinn,
Spartans Pull Away from LIU, 73-62
NORFOLK,
Va. – Kyle
O’Quinn posted
game highs of 22 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots to lead
Norfolk State to its third win in the last four games, 73-62, over
Long Island on Wednesday night at Echols Hall.
O’Quinn
recorded his eighth double-double of the year and he had it by
halftime, tallying 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in the
first half alone. His big half helped stake NSU (7-4) to an 11-point
halftime lead.
Chris
McEachin added
12 points for NSU, which held LIU to 34 percent shooting from the
floor (22-of-65). Pugh and Johnson tallied 10 and seven points,
respectively. McCauley contributed eight points and Pendarvis
Williams seven.
O’Quinn had a team-high four assists and added two of NSU’s 10
steals. McEachin added three blocked shots as the Spartans tallied a
season-high 10 rejections.
Boyd
led LIU with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jamal Olasewere added 12
points and seven boards.

Bears
Register First Win By Dropping UMBC, 73-60
BALTIMORE,
Md. -- The Morgan State men's basketball team snapped a
season-opening seven game losing streak with a late first half run
that led to a 73-60 victory at University of Maryland Baltimore
County on Wednesday night.
Senior forward Kevin
Thompson led
the Bears by posting his fourth double-double of the season with 17
points and 12 rebounds, to go along with a game-high four blocked
shots. Redshirt-sophomore center Ian
Chiles added
14 points, while Blake
Bozeman scored
13 and Larry
Bastfield chipped
in 11.
Brian Neller led UMBC with 16 points, while
Chandler Thomas and Chase Plummer scored 11 each.
The
Bears had its finest shooting performance of the season as they shot
25 of 46 (54.3 percent) from the field and shot 47 percent (8-17)
from beyond the arc.
UMBC
had a tough time against MSU's pressure defense, hitting only 20 of
73 from the floor (31.5 percent) and went 4 of 21 from 3-point
territory.

Baylor
Bounces B-CU 69-42
WACO,
Texas - Quincy
Acy had four of Baylor's 10 dunks, and Pierre Jackson had a team-high
12 points to go with consecutive assists on early slams that put the
Bears ahead to stay in a 69-42 victory Wednesday night.
That
was closer than last year's game, when the Wildcats (3-7) lost by 44
points.
Holloman
had 13 points and Anthony Breeze 12 for Bethune-Cookman,
the defending MEAC regular season champion and an NIT team last
season.
All
10 Bears who played scored, half of them getting at least eight
points.
The
Bears, who have won 25 consecutive non-conference home games the past
five seasons, had a 42-16 scoring advantage in the paint. They shot
56 percent (28 of 50) from the field, including 14 of 22 (64 percent)
after halftime.
