MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

 

NORFOLK, Va., December 12, 2011 - Maryland Eastern Shore's Percy Woods was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Prince Okoroh of Howard was named Rookie of the Week while Yannick Crowder of Florida A&M earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Woods (G, 6-1, 190, Jr., Hyattsville, Md.) scored 16 points with 10 assists, and five steals to lead Maryland Eastern Shore to a 95-69 win over Mercy. Woods connected on 6-of-11 baskets (54%) including 4-of-6 from long range.  He also hit 6-of-7 free throws and added two rebounds in just 25 minutes of play.  

Okoroh (F, 6-5, 190, Fr., Glenarden, Md.) averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks to help the Bison finish 1-1 last week.  In a 75-67 win over Delaware State Okoroh scored a career-best 21 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the field, with four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. 

Crowder (F/C, 6-8, 215, Sr., Stone Mountain, Ga.) averaged 10.0 rebounds, 4.3 blocks and 2.0 steals in three games last week for the Rattlers.  He grabbed 13 boards and blocked seven shots with four steals against Allen.  He recorded another 13 rebounds against Southeastern and blocked five shots against South Florida.  For the week Crowder totaled 30 rebounds, 13 blocks and six steals while playing 25.3 minutes per game. 

Other Top Performances

David Bruce (Hampton) recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds with two blocks in a one-point loss to Fordham.

Tony Gallo (CSU) posted a pair of double-digit scoring performances with 15 points in a win against Rio Grande and 21 points against Illinois.

Kendall Gray (DSU) scored 17 points with four rebounds and two blocks against Howard.

Darrion Pellum (Hampton) scored 25 points, with three steals, two rebounds, and one block in a 72-74 loss to American.

Kyle O'Quinn (NSU) totaled 32 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks, five assists, and one steal to help the Spartans to a 1-1 finish last week.

Mike Phillips (Howard) averaged 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in two games last week for the Bison.


Reggie Lewis (FAMU) averaged 14.6 points, 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds to help the Rattlers to a 2-1 mark last week.  

Jay Threatt (DSU) finished with 15 points, six assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block while playing the entire 40 minutes in a conference loss to Howard.

Casey Walker (DSU) recorded back-to-back double figures performances with 17 points against Howard and 15 points versus Delaware.

Pendarvis Williams (NSU) scored a career-high 20 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a conference win over South Carolina State.
