Eddie
Leads Hokies Past Spartans
BLACKSBURG,
Va. – Jarell Eddie scored a game-high 24 points as host Virginia Tech
outlasted Norfolk State 73-60 in the first-ever meeting between the schools on
Sunday.
Chris
McEachin notched 18 points and a career-high eight rebounds for NSU (6-4).
Erick
Green added 12 points and Cadarian Raines had 10 off the bench for the Hokies.
Six of Raines’ team-high tying seven boards came on the offensive end. Tech
grabbed 16 offensive rebounds leading to 17 second-chance points. For the game,
the Hokies outrebounded NSU 36-28, including a 16-6 edge in offensive boards.
O’Quinn
finished with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He also had eight rebounds, two
assists and two blocks before fouling out. Williams also finished with 14
points for the Spartans.

Illinois
Holds Off Coppin State
CHAMPAIGN,
Ill. - Tony Gallo scored 21 points, but 22nd-ranked Illinois used a late
run to pull away from Coppin State and defeat the Eagles 80-63 on Sunday.
Illinois
(10-0) built as much as a 17-point lead before the Eagles rallied in the second
half.
Gallo
started the Eagle comeback with a three-pointer. Michael Harper connected on a
three-pointer and Gallo capped the 9-0 run with another three that brought
Coppin State to within 54-46 with 11:47 to play in the game.
After
Mike Shaw converted a layup for Illinois, Logan Wiens ignited an 11-3 run with
a jumper. Taariq Cephas hit a three-pointer with 8:04 remaining that cut the
Illinois lead to 59-57.
The
Eagles (3-5) had a chance to take the lead, but Gallo missed on a three-point
attempt.
The
Eagles were unable to get the lead under 10 points for the remainder of the
contest.
Harper
added 13 points for Coppin State, while Akeem Ellis and Michael Murray each had
five rebounds.
Richardson
led four players in double figures for Illinois with 20 points.

NCCU
Held NC State to Seven Second Half Field Goals
RALEIGH,
N.C.– Trailing by 10 at the halftime break, North Carolina Central
University outscored North Carolina State University 33-28 in the second stanza
and nearly pulled off a major upset, dropping
a 65-60 contest to the Wolfpack.
The
Eagles came out 2-for-13 (15.3 percent) from the field in the first frame to
find themselves down 15-4 with 12:23 to go following a DeShawn Painter
three-point play.
The
Eagles were led by Willis who ended the game with 17 points, scoring 11 in the
second half, as did Sutton who scored just four in the first frame ending the
game with 15 points. Both Chasten and Anyaorah finished the
game with 13 points going a combined 4-for-8 from three-point range on the day.
NCCU
(5-5) held NC State (6-3) to just 7-for-27 (25.9 percent) from the field in the
second half, just 3-for-13 (23.1 percent) from the outside, while the Eagles
went 13-of-29 (44.8 percent) from the field 3-for-9 (33.3 percent) from
three-point range. NCCU managed just two second half turnovers while forcing
the host Wolfpack into 9 unforced errors.
