RECORD SHOOTING NIGHT GIVES LADY PIRATES FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton used a record shooting effort from behind the arc to beat Maryland Baltimore County 75-47 at the HU Convocation Center Saturday evening.
The Lady Pirates (7-1) hit a school-record 14 3-pointers, beating their previous record of 12 against South Carolina State in the quarterfinals of last season's MEAC Tournament. Hampton went 14-for-31 from behind the arc, 45.2 percent.
Senior guard Jericka Jenkins led Hampton with 26 points - 20 of which came in the second half - and 10 assists for her first double-double of the season. Jenkins went 5-for-8 from 3-point range.
Senior guard Choicetta McMillian poured in 21 points, tying her career high with seven 3-pointers on the night. Sophomore forward Alyssa Bennett recorded her second double-double of the season, tying her career high with 11 points, while adding a team-high 10 rebounds.
Bennett also had five steals.
UMBC scored the last nine points of the game, but the Lady Pirates still held their fourth straight opponent under 50 points.
The Lady Pirates shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the floor, while also making nine of their 12 free throws. Hampton held a 48-38 advantage in rebounds, and the Lady Pirates scored 23 points off of 15 Retriever turnovers.
UMBC (5-5) shot just 27.9 percent (17-for-61) from the floor, hitting just four of its 15 3-pointers. The Retrievers also struggled at the free throw line, going just 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) from the charity stripe.

Coppin State Falls to Syracuse, 56-50
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Senior Jeanine Manley scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but Syracuse held off Coppin State's second-half rally to defeat the Eagles 56-50 on Saturday in the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse, which improved to 7-3 overall, took a 33-17 lead with 18:37 to play in the game when Iasia Hemingway scored on a layup giving the Orange their largest lead of the game.
Coppin State (2-7) then staged a furious rally to get back into the game.
Crystal Whittington ignited a 9-0 run with back-to-back baskets that brought Coppin State to within 33-26 with 13:58 to play in the second period.
Syracuse responded with a basket and a pair of free throws to increase the lead to 37-26 with 13:08 to play.
Trailing 50-43, Coppin State got two free throws by Manley and a basket by Whittington to climb to within 50-47 with 1:46 left in regulation.
Manley made the first of two free throw attempts with 46 seconds remaining to trim the lead to 52-48. She missed the second attempt, grabbed the rebound but missed the putback attempt.
Elashier Hall made two free throws to push the Syracuse lead to 54-48 with 29 seconds to play.
Manley made a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left, but Carmen Tyson-Thomas scored on a breakway layup to seal the victory for Syracuse.
Whittington and Larrisa Carter each had eights points for Coppin State.
Leary scored 14 points to lead Syracuse, while Hemingway added 13 points.

SC State Drops Non-Conference Women's Basketball Matchup to Winthrop
Rock Hill, S.C.-SC State second half surge not enough as they fell to Winthrop, 59-67, in a non-conference women's basketball matchup.
Tiara Knotts recorded her fourth straight double-digit contest as she led the way with 13 points. Paris Alston continued to play solid as she dropped in nine points and pulled in eight rebounds. Trinese Fox contributed nine points while Cabriel Duren scored seven points with five rebounds as SC State dropped to 3-5 on the season.
Winthrop, who was led by Samiya Wright with 18, improved to 3-5 on the season. Dequesha McClanahan scored 15 and Diana Choibekova contributed 14 points in the contest. Mary Hathaway pulled in a team-high eight rebounds in the victory.
