Lady Pirates Celebrate Senior Day By Sweeping Howard

HAMPTON, Va. - Hampton won its final home match of the season on Sunday, beating Howard 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-22) in Holland Hall to send its four seniors out on a winning note.

The Lady Pirates (11-12, 6-4 MEAC) have now won six straight over Howard, and Hampton remains in third place in the MEAC Northern Division.

Hampton hit .236 as a team, thanks to 43 kills and just 17 errors in 110 total attacks. The Lady Pirates hit a team-best .441 (17 kills, two errors in 34 attacks) in the first set, while also hitting .222 (13 kills, five errors in 36 attacks).

The Lady Pirates also held a 6-3 edge in service aces.

Howard hit just .172 as a team, recording 31 kills and 15 errors in 93 attacks. The Lady Bison hit a team-best .250 (13 kills, five errors in 32 attacks) in the second set.

Krista Kraskura led the Lady Pirates with a team-high 12 kills, hitting .276 for the match with just four errors in 29 attacks. Armstrong added 11 kills and 12 digs on defense for her seventh double-double of the season, while hitting .233.

Tosin Elebute led Howard (5-22, 4-6 MEAC) with 10 kills, but hit just .176 for the match.

UMES Shuts Out Coppin State For 10th Straight Conference Win

The Hawks defeated their in-state rival Coppin State in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-21) at home for their 10th straight conference win, improving to 19-6 overall.  Coppin State falls to 1-10 in the MEAC and 5-22 overall.

With the victory, UMES has won 22-straight matches at home and 14 in a row this season.

As a team, UMES hit .404 with 48 kills and 10 errors on 94 total attacks.  Maline Vaitai got her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and digs plus a pair of blocks.  Saitaua Iosia hit .571 with 18 kills and just two errors, adding seven digs and three blocks.   Ndidi Ibe got a season-high seven blocks with nine kills to hit .533 while Williams finished with a perfect 1.000 hitting with six kills in as many attempts along with two blocks.

Ariel Richard led the Lady Eagles with 12 kills, also getting two aces.  Vanity Massey got six kills and digs, while libero Gabrielle Otero led all players with 16 digs.

Lady Aggies Fall to Bethune-Cookman, 3-1

GREENSBORO-In their final home game of the season, North Carolina A&T won their first set since sweeping Savannah State on Oct 16, giving them five set wins on the season.   But the Aggies (1-26, 1-7) lost the match to the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats (12-17, 6-3) in four sets at Corbett Sports Center on Sunday, by 25-10, 25-15, 17-25, and 25-15.   

The last time the Aggies competed in four sets was in their loss on Sept. 27 at Norfolk State.  It was just their second time this season playing more than three sets in a match.

Sophomore middle hitter Andrea Evans had a standout game, posting a team-high nine kills.  Sophomore Jeana Daniels had seven kills, while sophomore Tatiana Cooper had six.  The Aggies collected 28 total kills in the match, with seven service aces and 23 digs, and had a .033 attack percentage.  The Wildcats had 46 kills with a .301 attack percentage in the match.

Florida A&M Outlast NCCU Volleyball, 3-1

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - In the final home contest of her career North Carolina Central University senior Emanuelle Santos provided her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs in a four-set (26-24, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17) loss to Florida A&M on Sunday, Nov. 6 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.

Prior to the Sunday contest, seniors Santos, Shantel Moore, Tasha-Gaye Richards and Raven King, who finished the competition with the second-highest defensive accomplishment of her career with 19 digs, were honored for their contribution to the NCCU Volleyball program.

Moore also had an outstanding finding final-home performance with 10 kills and four service aces, while freshman Dayanna Arrufat topped the squad with 15 kills.  Richards assisted on five blocks and accumulated one solo block, as sophomore Jzima-Malaki Kalao delivered 42 assists.

In a rare outing, NCCU and FAMU both amassed 53 kills, but the game changer was the number of errors.  The Eagles finished hitting 12 percent with 35 errors, while the Rattlers concluded the match hitting 24 percent with 21 errors.

The mighty maroon finished the night with 53 kills, 47 assists, five service errors, 53 digs and 11 team blocks.

FAMU's offense was led by Marija Jovanovic, Maria Ceccarelli and Katherine Huanec.  Jovanovic and Ceccarelli finished with 16 kills apiece, while Huanec gathered 12 kills.  Dianna Gonzales guided the offense with 41 assists, while Gonzales, Pamela Barrera and Karol Marquez directed the defensive.  Marquez topped in digs with 23 and Gonzales followed with 10 digs, while Barrera collected two solo blocks and assisted on four blocks.

DSU Falls, 3-1 To Morgan State

BALTIMORE,  - Freshman Theresa Schieder recorded a team-high 10 kills Sunday afternoon as the Delaware State volleyball team fell, 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 25-22, 24-26), to Morgan State at Hill Field House.

Senior Megan McDonald added in seven kills and a .700 attack percentage in the loss while junior Bel Fakaosi contributed 28 assists and 10 digs.

Morgan State received double digit kills from four players in Kierra Outlin (16), Erin Cox (14), Janelle Wilson (10) and Ashley Johnson (10). 

The loss puts the Hornets at 4-19 overall and 3-7 in the MEAC while MSU improves to 9-18 and 7-4.
