UMES Wins 5th Straight MEAC North Division Title With 3-1 Win Over Morgan State

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Maryland Eastern Shore earned their fifth straight MEAC Northern Division title and 13th straight victory with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16,22-25, 25-20) win against Morgan State at home, improving to 9-0 in-conference and 18-6 overall.  Morgan State stays in second place in the North, falling to 6-4 in the MEAC and 8-18 overall.

The Hawks have won the MEAC North every year under Don Metil's tenure, going 47-2 in conference matches the last five seasons.

Saitaua Iosia got her 10th double-double of the year with 20 kills, hitting .567 and 10 digs, adding three blocks.  Ndidi  Ibe earned a career high 15 kills with three blocks.  Maline Vaitai notched 10 kills with six digs and four blocks, while Bowens also had six digs and four blocks along with nine kills.

Erin Cox picked up a double-double for the Lady Bears with 13 kills, 10 digs and two aces.  Kierra Outlin led the team in kills with 15, adding seven digs.

Spartans Send Seniors Out in Style with 3-1 Win over Howard

NORFOLK, Va. -The Spartan volleyball team handed Howard a 3-1 setback Friday evening at Joseph Echols Hall. NSU's offense fired on all cylinders, while the Bison could barely get anything going as the Spartans handed them payback for a 3-2 loss at Echols on Oct. 9.

NSU won the rematch, 25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, but more importantly the Spartans improved their MEAC record to 5-5 while dropping the Bison to 4-5. The win moved NSU half a game ahead of Howard for fourth place in the Northern Division. Only the top four teams in the division advance to the MEAC tournament.

NSU also ran its overall record to 9-14, while Howard fell to 5-21 on the season.

Seniors Tracey Copley and Jasmine Frazier played a big part in the win, as Copley had a match-high 17 digs, while Frazier contributed six kills and three blocks. The duo was honored with framed photos and flowers prior to the match along with injured senior Nicole Kessner for their contributions to the Spartans program over the last several years.

Junior Charlotte Armstead had a match-high 17 kills with seven service aces and three blocks to lead the Spartan attack, while junior Beatriz Ferreira and freshman Adriana Ramos added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. The three hit a combined .326 to lead an offense that hit .262 for the night. NSU committed just 18 attack errors for the four-set match.

Tosin Elebute, the conference's second-leading player in kills per set, was held to just 12 kills, while Taylor Johnson added nine kills and four blocks for the Bison. Jasmine King and Stephanie Shultis combined for 30 assists, and Jasmine Tipton had a team-high nine digs.

NCCU Drops Five-Set Decision To Bethune-Cookman

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - In spite of three maroon and gray student-athletes attaining season-high accolades, the Eagles of North Carolina Central could not overpower the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman in a five set (26-24, 19-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12) loss on Friday, Nov. 4 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.

NCCU senior Emanuelle Santos continues to pace the Eagles' offense, and during Friday's contest Santos lead the squad with a season-high 28 kills on 52 attempts and only seven errors.  Freshman Dayanna Arrufat broke her current dig record by gathering a season-high 20 digs in the loss, while senior Shantel Moore provided a season-high 15 kills and a season-high nine digs on the night.

Maroon and gray sophomore Jzima-Malaki Kalao and Alice Genna shared the setting effort with Kalao delivering 39 assists and Genna distributing 21, as senior Tasha-Gaye Richards assisted on two blocks and collected one solo block.

The mighty maroon collectively amassed 70 kills, five service aces, 62 digs and four team blocks.

Janeen Davis guided the Wildcats offense with the junior achieving a double-double with 25 kills and 16 digs.  Krysta Gardner assisted in the offensive effort with 18 kills, while Aubrianna Curtis allocated 44 assists.  Gardner also found success from the serving line with five service aces in the win, as Linda Nwabuko assisted on two blocks and gathered two solo blocks.

B-CU achieved the win with 57 kills, six service aces, 50 digs and six team blocks.

Delaware State Outlasts Coppin State, 3-2

DOVER, Del. - Freshman Theresa Schieder and sophomore Jessica Croucher combined for 24 kills Friday evening as the Delaware State Hornets outlasted Coppin State, 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 20-25, 18-16), at Memorial Hall.

In addition to her 12 kills, Schieder recorded a team-high .417 attack percentage (12 kills, two errors, 24 total attacks) while Croucher hit .333 on the night.  Senior Elisa Herrmann also hit double-digit kills with 11.

Ariel Richard posted a match-high 27 kills in the Coppin State loss.

Slow Start Hurts Aggies versus FAMU 

GREENSBORO-Sophomore middle hitter Jeana Daniels led the team for the sixth straight game in kills, but the North Carolina A&T Aggies struggled against a strong Florida A&M club on Friday night at Corbett Sports Center.  

The Aggies (1-25, 1-6) were swept by the Rattlers (9-12, 7-1), by 25-9, 10, 11.  Florida A&M had a .561 attack percentage, making only six attack errors.  N. C. A&T on the other hand had a .065 attack percentage and 13 attack errors and 17 total kills.  Daniels was responsible for nine of the 17 A&T kills.  The Aggies also struggled in passing and answering the Rattlers' serves, making a season-high 15 service reception errors.  

The Aggies jumped on the board first in Set 1, as sophomore outside hitter Tatiana Cooper notched a kill to open the game.  N.C. A&T had a 3-2 lead, but then Florida A&M went on a 16-0 run powered by seven kills, four service aces and five A&T attack errors.  Daniels and Cooper helped the Aggies gain a little momentum at the end of the set, as they collected a trio of kills between them.

The Aggies had a 3-2 lead in the second set, but the Rattlers offense overpowered them.  Florida A&M had 16 kills in the second set, while N.C. A&T had four, two of which were from Daniels.  

The Aggies performed better in the third set, collecting eight kills and just three errors.  They had a .287 hitting percentage in the final set, making it their best game of the match.  Daniels had four kills in nine total attacks.  Florida A&M was also strong in the final set, as they had 13 kills and no errors.  An attack error by the Aggies gave them the winning match point.
