MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

South Carolina State guard Tiara Knotts was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Delaware State's Tierra Hawkins earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T's Tracy King earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Knotts (Guard, 5-4, Jr., Columbia, S.C.)  scored a career-high 28 points, while shooting 50-percent from the field in a non-conference win against Charleston Southern. She also grabbed six rebounds with three assists and three steals. Knotts shot 66-percent from 3-point range and 45-percent from the free-throw line in the 68-65 victory.  

Hawkins (Guard/Forward, 6-2, Fr., Clinton, Md.) combined for 36 points, nine rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot in three games for the Lady Hornets last week. Against NJIT, Hawkins shot 41-percent from the floor and was 75-percent (6-of-8) from the free-throw line.

King (Guard, 5-10, So., Alexandria, Va.) grabbed 16 rebounds along with 11 steals in two wins for the Lady Aggies last week. Offensively, she added 40 points and dished out three assists.

Other Top Performers:

Keiara Avant (Hampton) posted a double-double performance of 12 points and 15 rebounds against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.

Antonia Bennett (FAMU) combined for 56 points, 17 rebounds and six assists in three Lady Rattler games last week.

Ebony Brown (NSU) 10 points, four rebounds and added two assists and one steal in 15 minutes of action against Virginia Union.

Ariel Bursey (NCAT) scored seven points and three rebounds in 14 minutes of play against Clemson.

Qiana Donald (FAMU) recorded back-to-back double double performances against Florida International and Nebraska.

Saadia Doyle (Howard) tallied her third double-double of the year with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Loyola (Md.).


Cabriel Duren (SCSU)
recorded six points and three rebounds against Charleston Southern.

Nadirah Durr (DSU) totaled 10 points, 18 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in three Lady Hornet games last week.

Jasmine Elum (B-CU) led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with a combined 33 points in two games. 

Ezinne Kalu (SSU) recorded 18 points and three rebounds against Nebraska and followed that outing with 14 points and five rebounds against Mississippi State.

Rachel Gordon (NSU) averaged 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in two Spartan victories last week.

Deanna Harmon (DSU) combined for 27 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals in three games for the Lady Hornets.

Chyress Lockhart (MSU)
shot 4-of-6 from the floor and was perfect from the free-throw line (1-of-1) in a win against Bucknell.

DeKeisha Mathis (MSU) averaged 16 points, including four 3-pointers, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals to lead Morgan State to a 1-1 record last week.

Choicetta McMillian (Hampton) tallied a career-high 29 points in a win over Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.
