Holmes and Doyle lead HU to a victory against Detroit in Preseason WNIT
AKRON, Ohio -November 19- Saadia Doyle and Tamoria Holmes collectively had 41 out Howard's 60 points to guide HU to their first win of the season over the University of Detroit (0-3) in the Preseason WNIT finale, 60-58.
Howard (1-2) started out relentless as senior, Zykia Brown, made a 3-pointer to put the Lady Bison up 3-0. The score went tick for tack throughout the first period. With just seven seconds left in the first half, Howard tied the game 26-26 with an easy basket by junior, Holmes.
To tip off the second 20 minutes, the Lady Bison came out with a burst of energy, going on an 11-5 run, and improving the score to 39-31 by the first media timeout.
The Titans would not let up. They continued fighting by pressuring Howard into forced turnovers. With just 3:58 left in the ball game, Detroit was down 54-52. As time whined down to last final seconds of the ball game, the Lady Bison pulled away with the win by a short-jumper from Doyle.
In 30 minutes of play, Doyle earned her first double-double of the season recording a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Holmes chipped in with 19 points, six assists, and five steals.
Detroit's top performers were led by Shareta Brown who finished with a double-double, 14 points and 10 boards. Chanahl Putman added 13 points, while Yar Shayok finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lady Pirates Use Strong Second Half To Beat Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Hampton trailed at the half, but outscored Jacksonville by 15 points in the second half on Saturday en route to a 68-55 win at Swisher Gymnasium.
The Lady Pirates (2-0) have won 26 of their last 29 games, dating back to last season, and they also avenged last season's 49-42 loss to the Dolphins.
Senior guard Jericka Jenkins led the Lady Pirates with 17 points on 6-for-18 shooting and a 5-for-5 effort from the free throw line. In fact, four Lady Pirates scored in double figures; junior forward Ariel Phelps scored 12 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, while sophomore forward Alyssa Bennett also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior forward Keiara Avant added 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting, while senior forward Melanie Warner had nine points to go along with a team-high 15 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 38.5 percent (25-for-65) from the floor - including a 50.0-percent clip in the second half. Hampton also had a stellar afternoon at the free throw line, hitting 16 of its 17 attempts (94.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
Hampton also held a 45-36 edge in rebounds, while also forcing the Dolphins (0-3) into 20 turnovers - scoring 14 points off of them. The Lady Pirates also led in points in the paint (34-28) and second-chance points (14-11).
Tracie Sneed led Jacksonville with 19 points, though she only scored six in the second half.
The Dolphins shot 35.6 percent (21-for-59) from the floor, but shot just 8-for-27 (29.6 percent) in the second half.

Lady Bulldogs Fall Short To Presbyterian 53-50
ORANGEBURG, SC - Junior forward Tiana Hemphill grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and tossed in eight points, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped a tough 53-50 decision to Presbyterian College Saturday at S-H-M Center.
The Lady Bulldogs was also led by junior guards Trinese Fox with 13 points, and Cabriel Duren chipped in 10 in the loss. Dria David and Mariah Pietrowski each had 12 for Presbyterian.
Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs outrebounded Presbyterian 45-25 only to fall short. Paris Alston finished nine points and seven rebounds, while Kristen Stevens chipped in 11 and Sherece Smith added 10 in the victory.

Wofford Wins Defensive Struggle With NSU, 50-45
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A very physical game turned into a defensive struggle that fell in favor of Wofford as the Terriers defeated the Norfolk State women's basketball team, 50-45, Saturday afternoon at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
In a game that saw a lot of physical contact but not many fouls called, the Terriers held the Spartans at bay, never getting a lead of more than 10 but never letting NSU get on top after the opening minute of play. The loss marked the first of the season for NSU (2-1), while Wofford kept its perfect record intact and improved to 3-0.
The Spartans shot just 28.0 percent for the game and was led by sophomore Rae Corbo with 10 points. Wofford fared better, hitting 41.7 percent for the game, although the Spartans converted one more field goal than the Terriers thanks to 25 offensive boards. Wofford sank 8-of-13 from the free throw line, while NSU sank just 1-of-4 attempts.
Junior Recca Trice had nine points, tied her career high with seven steals and also added four assists, while the duo of sophomore Rachel Gordon and senior Whitney Long each added eight points on the afternoon. Gordon also tallied a team-high 10 rebounds for the Spartans, who held a 45-40 advantage on the boards.
Wofford was led by Morgan Wrightson with 14 points, while Daniella Motley added 12 points and eight rebounds. April Moorhouse had a game-high 11 boards with 10 points, and Rachel Brittenham had seven rebounds, five points and five assists.
