DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Freshmen Dayanna Arufat and Ashley McCarthy provided notable performances in North Carolina Central's four-set (25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 25-12) loss to the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman.
Arrufat paced the Eagles in kills with 10, while collecting 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. While McCarthy collected four block assists and one solo block. Fellow freshman Alice Genna delivered 18 assists. Senior Raven King led the team in digs with 12, as senior Tasha-Gaye Richards served three aces.
The mighty maroon amassed 39 kills on 121 attempts, 36 assists, six service aces, 41 digs and nine team blocks.
Janeen Davis and Krysta Gardner paced the Wildcats offense. Davis topped the squad with 20 kills, as Gardner followed with 17. Frances Rodriguez circulated 30 assists, while Davis collected 16 digs. Along with Linda Nwabuko leading in blocks (four) and service aces (three).
Saturday's match marks NCCU's first MEAC loss this season.
NCCU drops to 1-19 on the season and 1-1 in the MEAC, while Bethune-Cookman advance to 9-10 and 3-1 in the MEAC.
