Howard Battles Hampton In Four
HAMPTON, Va. -Howard Lady Bison (1-17, 0-2 MEAC) went head-to-head with the Hampton Pirates (8-8, 3-0 MEAC) as both teams fought point for point in the match held at Holland Hall on Friday night.
Howard started the match off slow losing 15-25. Set scores for the match were 15-25, 26-24, 18-25, 26-28.
Senior, Tosin Elebute, dominated on the outside and right side finishing with the match-high of 19 kills and seven digs. Freshman middle blocker, Assata Conway, stepped up by putting ten balls to the floor. Stephanie Shultis finished just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 19 assists. Destinee Harrison recorded a career-best five kills and three blocks. Junior setter, Jasmine King, dished out 20 assists for the team.
For the Pirates, Sonja Maksimovic put down 14 kills, followed by Mianna Armstrong who finished with 11 kills and ten digs for a double-double. The ball was distributed evenly allowing various players to compete in the kill percentages. Setter, Juliana Chavez, dished out 39 assists.

Croucher And Davis Lead DSU Over MSU, 3-2
DOVER, Del. - It took five sets, but the Delaware State built off of the electricity of the Memorial Hall crowd to defeat Morgan State, 3-2, Friday evening. After dropping the first set, 30-32, the Hornets knew they were in for a long night. They fought back in the next two, winning each 25-13 before falling 19-25 in set four. In the deciding game, Del State took the crowd's energy and took the set and match at 15-8.
Sophomore Jessica Croucher and junior Laisha Davis led the Hornets to team season-highs in five different categories in addition to posting personal season-highs in various categories.
Croucher recorded an attack percentage of .405 (19-4-37), which was over 70 points higher than her previous high of .333 set on Sept. 30 against Howard. Her 19 kills bested her previous of 14, set against Navy on Sept. 9. Croucher also collected four aces on the night. Davis collected a season-high 11 kills for DSU.
Individually, junior Bel Fakaosi and senior Sonja Banicevic also set season-highs. Fakaosi recorded 45 assists while Banicevic posted 23 digs in the match.

Bethune-Cookman Sweeps North Carolina A&T, 3-0
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Janeen Davis and Krysta Gardner combined for 23 kills and nine service aces as Bethune-Cookman defeated North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) in a MEAC Southern Division match Friday evening in Moore Gymnasium.
Both Gardner (five aces) and Davis (four) registered season-high totals, and Davis 13 kills as the Lady Wildcats (8-10 overall, 2-1 MEAC) won their second straight and handed the Aggies (0-19,0-2) their 36th consecutive loss.
B-CU never trailed in the match and limited North Carolina A&T to a -.130 hitting percentage.
Davis' 7 digs led a balanced B-CU defense, while Frances Rodriguez and Aubrianna Curtis combined for 31 assists.
Tatiana Cooper had four kills and seven digs for North Carolina A&T.

UMES Defeats Coppin State, 3-0
BALTIMORE -- Freshman Ariel Richard had 12 kills and 12 digs, but Maryland Eastern Shore rallied to defeat Coppin State 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 in a MEAC match on Friday in the Physical Education Complex.
Richard posted her second straight double-double and her seventh on the season to pace Coppin State. She also had three service aces and two blocks.
Christina Epps and Vanity Massey each added seven kills, while Gabrielle Otero had 17 digs.
Coppin State (3-16, 0-4 MEAC) hit a blistering .429 in winning the first set, but failed to hit above .000 in any of the remaining three sets.
Maryland Eastern Shore (11-6, 2-0 MEAC) received 13 kills each from Maline Vaitai and Saitaua Iosia and 10 kills from Kaveinga Lea'Aetoa.
The Hawks also used a dominating blocking performance to remain undefeated in the conference as UMES registered 13.5 blocks for the match.
Coppin State closed the first set on a 4-0 run to claim the victory. Richard, Epps and Massey each recorded kills and Richard fired a service ace to wrap up the set.
The Hawks then rallied to win the next three sets to win the match.

SC State Women's Volleyball Team Defeats in Savannah State
Orangeburg, S.C.-The SC State women's volleyball team defeated Savannah State, 3-0, (25-9, 25-11, 25-9), in a MEAC matchup in Dukes Gymnasium. With the victory the Lady Bulldogs remains undefeated at home in 2011 at 7-0.
SC State (10-11, 3-0 MEAC) made quick work of Savannah State who had just eight kills in the match. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the match from start to holding Savannah State (0-15, 0-3 MEAC) to a -.167 hitting percentage and 8 total kills for the match. The Lady Bulldogs finished the match with a season-high 22 service aces (E. Paige Webb led the way with 7) and seven team blocks.
Shabree Roberson and Desire Waller led SC State in kills with 10 and eight, respectively. Waller and Melissa Robinson each recorded six service aces while Roberson had a team-high five blocks. Savannah State was led by Jennifer Lowe with four kills. Bryana Gadis had five digs for Savannah State, who fell to 0-15 overall and 0-3 in the MEAC.
