NORFOLK, Va. - Sophomore Thea Aspiras of the Norfolk State bowling team has been selected to be inducted into the 2011 Tidewater Virginia United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Hall of Fame, the organization's board of directors recently announced.
Aspiras will be one of two bowlers inducted into the Hall of Fame as a "Star of the Future." The Tidewater Virginia USBC honors three types of candidates for the Hall of Fame: Star of the Future, Superior Performance and Meritorious Service.
"It is such an honor to be inducted into this hall of fame," said Aspiras, who was encouraged by a former coach to send in the nomination form. "It is one of the biggest honors I have ever received in my bowling career and definitely one of my proudest accomplishments."
The ceremony is set to take place Nov. 12 at the Chiefs' Club located on the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach. The event starts at 7 p.m., with the actual induction ceremony set for 8:30 p.m. following dinner. The hall of fame will induct four bowlers all-together, including one each for the other two categories.
Aspiras is not the first member of her family to garner the honor, as her older brother, Phil, was also inducted into the hall of fame as a "Star of the Future" in his late teens.
"To follow in the footsteps of my brother makes it that much more enjoyable," she said.
