MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Morgan State sophomore Natalie Chafeh was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Zuri Smith earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Chafeh (5-10, So., S, Fontana, Calif.) totaled 97 assists and 14 kills to aid the Lady Bears to a 2-0 mark last week. The setter recorded 42 assists and a .375 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win over Norfolk State.  She followed with a career-high 55 assists against Hampton.   Defensively, Chafeh added 11 blocks and 17 digs in the two matches.


Smith (5-10, Fr., OH/MH, Inglewood, Calif.) combined for 19 kills on 35 attacks (.457) in two wins for the Lady Bears. The rookie tallied a career-high seven blocks and added three digs in a win over Norfolk State. Against Hampton, Smith recorded a career-high 12 kills and posted an attack percentage of .587.   


Other Top Performers:

Mianna Armstrong (Hampton)
tallied a career-high 21 kills and 28 digs in a loss to Morgan State.

Edarkis Branch (DSU)
recorded six blocks, five digs and three blocks in a loss to Lehigh.


Maria Ceccarelli (FAMU)
hit 45-percent with 25 kills on 44 attacks in two conference victories for the Lady Rattlers.

Jessica Croucher (DSU) combined for 14 kills, 15 digs and six blocks in two matches for the Hornets.

Aubrianna Curtis (B-CU) recorded a double-double of 24 assists and 10 digs in a loss to North Florida.

Tosin Elebute (Howard) tallied 24 kills and 15 digs against Delaware State.

Krysta Gardner (B-CU) totaled 45 kills and 22 digs in three matches for the Wildcats.

Beatriz Ferreira (NSU) combined for 37 kills and five digs to aid the Spartans to a 1-1 mark last week.

Saitaua Iosia (UMES)
posted 19 kills and seven digs in a 3-0 victory against Howard.

Krista Kraskura (Hampton) recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 18 digs against Morgan State.

Adriana Ramos (NSU) posted a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs in a 3-2 loss to Morgan State.

Ariel Richard (CSU) tallied 15 kills and a career-high 22 digs against Hampton.

Desiree Waller (SCSU) averaged 14.3 kills and 12.5 digs in three matches for the Lady Bulldogs.
