Orangeburg, S.C.-Desire Waller recorded her seventh double-double as she put down a game high 20 kills with 14 digs as SC State defeated Florida A&M, 3-1, (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-15). The victory was the second straight MEAC win for the Lady Bulldogs. SC State defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-0, in its 2011 MEAC opener on Friday (Sept. 30). With the win, the Lady Bulldogs remains undefeated at home at 6-0 on the season.
SC State, who improved to 9-10 overall and 2-0 in the MEAC, had two players to record double-digit kills as Shabree Roberson had 11 kills out of 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .500. Roberson also led the way in blocks with five total (1 solo-4 block assist). Bria Brimmer put up a game-high 45 set assists to lead the offense. Melissa Robinson had an outstanding serving game as she recorded seven aces in the match including five straight late in set four. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs hit a season-high .415 with 10 total team blocks.
Florida A&M had three players to record double-digit kills led by Katherine Huanec with 15. Maria Ceccarelli had 11 and Pamela Barrera had 10 as the Lady Rattlers remained winless on the season at 0-11 and 0-1 in the MEAC. Diana Gonzales put up 37 set assists and Karol Marquez had 11 digs in the loss.
