Norfolk State Wins 2011 Men's Cross Country Title

Norfolk State's men's cross country teams won the 2011 MEAC Cross Country Championship title Saturday morning at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.

In men's cross country action, the Norfolk Spartans won their 11th title in 12 years. Six athletes finished among the top 15 for NSU to earn All-MEAC honors. The Spartans scored a total of 30 points and as a team averaged 26:18.80 on the 8K course.

Norfolk State's Josef Tessema won the men's race to earn Outstanding Performer accolades. Tessema ran a time of 25:24.73 to pace the Spartans.

Kenneth Giles of NSU earned Men's Cross Country Outstanding Coaching honors for the 11th time in his career.

In team results, Florida A&M totaled 54 points for a second place finish. Howard (76), Maryland Eastern Shore (142) and North Carolina A&T (167) rounded out the top five in the men's team standings.
