Lady Wildcat Bowlers Open Season with Gator Collegiate Shootout Win
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a great start to the 2011-12 season, hitting the lanes at the UF Gator Collegiate Shootout, and coming away with a big win, topping the field after two days of competition.
B-CU beat Webber International 2-1 in the semifinals and swept Florida 2-0 in the final to win the Shootout championship at Alley Katz Lanes.
B-CU displayed a total team effort and delivered big shot after big shot to open the season on a very high note.
Individually, sophomore Staci Hilliard and freshman Felicia Baker held the highest B-CU averages to lead the team in the Shootout on the tough pattern. Hilliard bowled at a 172 pin average through four games, including a high game of 201. Baker averaged 171 pins across five games, bowling a high game of 205.

NSU Spartans Finish Third at Hampton Roads Invite
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Short-handed and competing in the first tournament of the year, the Norfolk State bowling team finished third at the three-day Hampton Roads Invitational on Sunday after finishing the qualifying rounds as the top team in the tournament.
After those qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday, NSU entered Sunday's action with the highest pinfall out of the seven teams at 9,336, ahead of eventual tournament champion North Carolina Central at 9,019 pins. The Spartans went 5-1 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday, falling to NC Central by just one pin on the first day and to North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
NSU fell to Bowie State in the best-of-seven bracket finals on Sunday, 4-3, after receiving a bye in the first round. The Spartans took care of Elizabeth City State in five games in the final round for NSU's final third-place finish. NC Central downed Bowie State for the tournament title. A&T defeated Chowan for fifth place, and Virginia State finished seventh after an opening round loss to Chowan.
Senior Chelsea Krall, junior Jessica Overton, and sophomore Thea Aspiras earned spots on the all-tournament team along with players from Elizabeth City State and NC Central. Overton ranked second with a 188.8 average, with Krall and Aspiras at 3-4 with 187.0 and 186.0 averages, respectively.
Freshman Delilah Bethel averaged 162.7 in all six games on Saturday, while freshmen Courtney Brown and Courtney Williford alternated as the fifth bowler in those six games.

Eagles Open Bowling Season With Four Victories at Kutztown Invitational
READING, Pa. -- Led by Loren Johnston and Stephanie Simmons, the Coppin State bowling team opened its 2011-12 season with four victories at the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
Johnston averaged 181.0 pins per game in the Eagles five total pinfall games. She knocked down at least 187 pins in three games including a high game of 224 against Howard. Her 224 game ranks as the 12th-best total in Coppin State history.
Simmons averaged 151.8 in her five games and posted a high game of 198 against Howard.
The Eagles opened tournament play by recording a 2-4 record in baker system play. CSU defeated Cheyney 637-587 in its opening match of the year and also defeated Cheyney 676-586 in its final match of the day.
Coppin State posted a 2-3 record in team total pinfall play with victories over Tulane (735-689) and SUNY Institute of Technology (672-643).
Sophomore Heather Josker averaged 138.8 per game in team play with a high of 179 against Lincoln. Jade Dudley had an average of 135.2, while Nicole Boggs averaged 115.2.
